Acute Pain and Personal Experience
There are events in our lives that we remember clearly. Some of them are wonderful memories, and others occasionally horrifying. I was recently hit by a car while walking on a sunny December California day. As I approached a busy corner, I waited for two cars to stop before proceeding into the crosswalk; pedestrians, per California law, have the right of way when crossing. Evidently the driver that hit me didn't see me enter the crossing, and “right of way” really didn't matter. I don't know if she was distracted by her phone or otherwise impaired.
