Implementing a new adolescent epilepsy service: Improving patient experience and readiness for transition
ConclusionsThis paper documents what is important to young people with epilepsy regarding service delivery. The new adolescent service was well received. Based on feedback from adolescents and parents relating to the service, and the suboptimal uptake of MH supports, the model of care has been revised to reduce attendance burden on families and improve patient experience. Oral dextrose gel to treat neonatal hypoglycaemia: Clinician survey
AimsTo determine the use of oral dextrose gel to treat neonatal hypoglycaemia in New Zealand (NZ), to identify barriers and enablers to the implementation of the guideline and to determine if there is variation in management between clinical disciplines caring for at ‐risk babies.MethodsAn online survey was distributed to clinicians (including doctors, midwives and nurses) caring for babies with neonatal hypoglycaemia via stakeholders and maternity hospitals.ResultsA total of 251 clinicians from all 20 District Health Boards (DHBs) completed the survey. Latent tuberculosis may be missed by current screening practices: Analysis of interferon ‐gamma release assay results from a paediatric refugee clinic
ConclusionsWe identified 12 children with LTBI who would have been missed using current NSW Health Department screening practices. These children are at risk of progression to active disease, particularly the two aged younger than 2 years old. We recommend universal screening. (Source: Journal of Paediatrics and Child Health)

Comparison of vaccination coverage of four childhood vaccines in New Zealand and New York State
Aim To ensure that children are vaccinated, different national governments use diverse strategies. We compared childhood vaccination coverage rates between New York State (NYS) and New Zealand (NZ) as the vaccination strategies are different. Methods We used vaccination records from the NYS Immunisation Information System and the National Immunisation Register of NZ to measure (i) vaccination coverage by school entry and by age six; (ii) coverage of different socio ‐demographic groups; and (iii) trend in vaccination coverage between 2011 and 2015. Results We analysed the records of 583 767 NYS children and 269...

Development of sleep patterns in children with obese and normal ‐weight parents
ConclusionsUnfavourable sleep characteristics, as well as more variation in sleep schedules, have been observed in children at high obesity risk. A narrative review of proteinuria and albuminuria as clinical biomarkers in children
AbstractProteinuria is an important biomarker commonly used to detect and manage kidney disease in children. There are now a variety of methods available to measure urinary protein loss, and physicians are faced with several contrasting strategies: 24 ‐h or timed collection versus spot samples (first‐morning or random), measurement of total urinary protein versus selective measurement of urinary albumin, unadjusted urine protein concentration versus protein‐to‐creatinine ratio and the use of dipstick versus laboratory‐based methods. In this review, we will discuss the advantages and disadvantages of these differe...
