Comparison of CD34 Expression in Fibrous Reactive Hyperplasia and Healthy Oral Mucosa
ConclusionsThese findings suggest that the increase in collagen synthesis in CD34-positive fibroblasts in the submucosa leads to the development of FRH. To our knowledge, this is the first report confirming the mRNA expression patterns of CD34 in FRH. (Source: Journal of Oral Biosciences)

PLAG1 enhances the stemness profiles of acinar cells in normal human salivary glands in a cell type-specific manner
ConclusionPLAG1 enhanced the stemness profiles in the acinar cells of normal human salivary glands in a cell type-specific manner. Thus, it may be involved in salivary gland tumorigenesis by increasing the stemness character of the normal salivary gland cells. (Source: Journal of Oral Biosciences)

Degree of conversion and microhardness of bulk-fill dental composites polymerized by LED and QTH light curing units
ConclusionsThe polymerization efficacies of the two bulk-fill composites were different in terms of the depth of cure and type of light source. The DC and microhardness of the X-tra fill bulk-fill composite polymerized by either QTH or LED did not decrease up to a thickness of 4 mm. Thus, new generations of LED light sources are better options for polymerizing the bulk-fill resin composites than QTH. (Source: Journal of Oral Biosciences)

High-fat diet increases labial groove formation in maxillary incisors and is related to aging in C57BL/6 mice
ConclusionsThe study findings indicate that, in C57BL/6 mice, consumption of a high-fat diet increases labial groove formation in maxillary incisors, which is related to aging of the tissue stem cells in the apical root end of the teeth. (Source: Journal of Oral Biosciences)

Oral stem cells in intraoral bone formation
ConclusionOral stem cells have excellent potential for bone formation and can be successfully used to replace traditionally used bone marrow stem cells. Some sources like stem cells from human exfoliated deciduous teeth (SHED), dental follicle stem cells (DFSC), Stem Cells from Apical Papilla (SCAP), and others need assessment beyond animal models and require human studies for clinical use. More clinical trials of randomized nature are suggested to standardize the clinical procedure and strengthen the claim of oral stem cells as potential replacement of bone marrow counterparts. Noggin inhibition of mouse dentinogenesis
ConclusionsThe phenotypes we observed in Noggin-overexpressing and Smad4-conditional knockout teeth resemble the phenotype of Dentinogenesis Imperfecta (DGI) type III. Our results show that BMPs regulate post-natal dentinogenesis and that BMP-inhibitory proteins like Noggin play a role in that regulation. The increased severity of the Smad4 phenotype indicates that Tgfß ligands, in addition to BMPs, play a crucial role in post-developmental dentinogenesis. (Source: Journal of Oral Biosciences)

How the diversity of the faces arises
ConclusionWe have gained much knowledge with respect to cis-regulatory elements, gene expression, cellular behavior, and the physical forces in facial development in the past two decades. Significant interdisciplinary work is needed to integrate these varied pieces of information into a complete picture of how the diversity of faces arises. (Source: Journal of Oral Biosciences)

Histopathological analysis of the differential diagnosis of peripheral odontogenic fibroma from fibrous epulis
ConclusionsPOF is CD34 negative, and Bcl-2 and Ki-67 positive-cell ratio differs between POF and FE, suggesting that these proteins may serve as immunohistochemical markers for the differential diagnosis of POF. (Source: Journal of Oral Biosciences)

Dietary constituent genistein inhibits the hyperexcitability of trigeminal nociceptive neurons associated with mechanical hyperalgesia following orofacial inflammation
ConclusionHerein, we present the first evidence that genistein attenuates hyperexcitability of SpVc neurons associated with inflammatory mechanical hyperalgesia. These findings suggest that genistein could be a potential therapeutic agent in complementary alternative medicine for the prevention of trigeminal inflammatory hyperalgesia.
