Validation of the Canadian Institute for Health Information Diagnostic Codes for Benign Gynecologic Surgery

Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTWe investigated the validity of ICD-10-CA diagnostic codes for surgery for benign gynecologic conditions in the CIHI-DAD, the main source of routinely-collected data in Canada. Reabstracted data from patient charts was compared to ICD-10-CA codes and measures of validity were calculated with 95% confidence intervals. 1068 procedures were identified. Safety and Efficiency Outcomes of Ambulatory Gynaecological Procedures in Canadian Surgical Centres Adopting a Common Model
CONCLUSION: In Canada, the majority of gynaecological procedures are performed under general anesthesia.
