Increased Y chromosome microdeletions in cord blood of male newborns from assisted reproductive technology compared to natural conception
CONCLUSIONS: Our studies indicate that the population of male children conceived through ARTs, particularly ICSI, are at an increased risk of genetic defect in the form of partial Y chromosome microdeletions. The growing population of ART-conceived children emphasizes the importance of studying genetic repercussions of these procedures in regards to the future fertility of males conceived in vitro.PMID:38176679 | DOI:10.1016/j.jogc.2023.102342 (Source: Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology Canada : JOGC)

The effects of long-term dienogest therapy on in vitro fertilization outcomes in women with endometriosis: a systematic review and meta-analysis
CONCLUSIONS: Out of 191 publications, five studies with 723 participants were included. Uncertainty persists on whether prolonged dienogest affects live birth (RR 1.42, 95% CI 0.29 to 6.84; 3 studies, n = 289; I2 86%) and clinical pregnancy rates (RR 1.33, 95% CI 0.31 to 5.65; 3 studies, n = 289; I2 86%) compared to conventional IVF. Moreover, uncertainty remains regarding intervention impact on live birth (RR 1.46, 95% CI 0.63 to 3.37; 1 study, n = 34) and clinical pregnancy rates (RR 1.32, 95% CI 0.78 to 2.23; 3 studies, n = 288; I2 0%) versus long-term GnRH agonist therapy before IVF. Given limited data and very low evi...

A retrospective study of 12-year cohort of 216 parturients with invasive placentation in a tertiary care center in Oman: clinical outcomes indicate severe maternal morbidity
J Obstet Gynaecol Can. 2024 Jan 2:102341. doi: 10.1016/j.jogc.2023.102341. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTPlacenta accreta spectrum (PAS) composed of placenta accreta, increta and percreta, is one of the leading causes of peripartum haemorrhage and accounts for up to 50% of all caesarean hysterectomies (CH). We analysed the data of 216 parturients with PAS who underwent caesarean delivery (CD) and/or CH. Intraoperative surgical complications were noted in 215 (99.5%). The mean estimated blood loss was 2743 (1790) ml, and 105 (48.6%) parturients lost ≥2500 ml. They experienced high rates of severe acute maternal morbidity ...

An Investigation of Associations Among Pain Catastrophizing and Pain Disability in a Diverse Sample of Individuals with Endometriosis
CONCLUSION: Pain catastrophizing significantly impacts pain disability, and vice versa. Future research should examine the temporal relationship between catastrophizing and disability to inform intervention practices. Healthcare providers are strongly encouraged to evaluate the effects of endometriosis on patients using a biopsychosocial framework.PMID:38171483 | DOI:10.1016/j.jogc.2023.102340 (Source: Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology Canada : JOGC)

Validation of the Canadian Institute for Health Information Diagnostic Codes for Benign Gynecologic Surgery
J Obstet Gynaecol Can. 2023 Dec 29:102343. doi: 10.1016/j.jogc.2023.102343. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTWe investigated the validity of ICD-10-CA diagnostic codes for surgery for benign gynecologic conditions in the CIHI-DAD, the main source of routinely-collected data in Canada. Reabstracted data from patient charts was compared to ICD-10-CA codes and measures of validity were calculated with 95% confidence intervals. 1068 procedures were identified. More objective, structural diagnoses (fibroids, prolapse) had higher sensitivity and near-perfect Kappa coefficients, while more subjective, symptomatic diagnoses (abnormal...

Sperm Donors' Identity Disclosure: Is It REALLY Crucial? For Whom?
CONCLUSION: While ID is important for certain section (mainly single) of recipients, it is far from the only dominant factor during donor selection.
