Chat With WIC: Nutrition Information Through a Chatbot
Maya, the Texas WIC chatbot was incorporated onto TexasWIC.org to reduce administrative burdens on staff and participants by answering questions about program eligibility and helping participants make and change appointments. Maya was developed using a multi-phased iterative framework to ensure user-centered design. Previous chatbot evaluations indicated that users would like to engage with Maya to ask nutrition related questions and access nutrition information, a key component of the WIC program. Contribution of Sugar to Children's Calories Intake: Implications for the Dietary Guidelines for Americans
Excessive consumption of sugar associates with metabolic abnormalities and adverse health outcomes. The Dietary Guidelines for Americans 2020-2025 recommends those 2 years and older consume less than 10% of their calories from added sugar. Sugar is widely available and attractive to children, however the contributions of sugar to carbohydrate and calories intakes in children has been sparsely researched.
