Robotics in Nursing: A Bibliometric Analysis
ConclusionsThe application of robots has been used beyond typical physical day ‐to‐day processes as many definitions of robotics suggest. Eleven (52%) of the 21 articles described the use of robots with aged patients. In some cases, robots were used as companions for older adults, as opposed to replacing mechanical and repetitive motions.Clinical RelevanceRobotics are being used globally in nursing care areas. While a limited amount of research on this topic in nursing exists, this study of the literature offers reports of applications of robots within nursing care areas. Why Do We Require Registered Nurses in Nursing Homes? Using Longitudinal Hierarchical Linear Modeling
ConclusionsResults supported registered nurses ’ exclusive impact on resident outcomes. More longitudinal research is required to confirm the influence of nurses on nursing home residents’ outcomes.Clinical Relevance: This study supported about the contributions of increased input of Registered Nurses, additional to previous longitudinal studies. The nursing homes in Korea should have mandatory Registered Nurse placement for optimal quality of care.Clinical RelevanceThis study supported about the contributions of increased input of Registered Nurses, additional to previous longitudinal studies. The nursing homes in Kor...

Robotics in Nursing: A Scoping Review
ConclusionsAfter a detailed review of the state of the art in assistive robots and social assistive robots, an insight into the future of robotics in this field is provided. The recommendations include the need to intensify research on human robot interaction, greater focus on monitoring robots, and analysis of the psychological barriers that need to be surmounted to achieve more tolerance and higher acceptance of robots.Clinical RelevanceFor researchers and developers to provide suitable technological solutions, a full understanding of robotics in nursing is needed. An overview of the most recent applications and their pr...

Social Robots for Depression in Older Adults: A Systematic Review
ConclusionsThe results highlight the potential of social robot interventions for reducing depression in older adults. However, the evidence is not strong enough to formulate recommendations on clinical effectiveness.Clinical RelevanceSocial robots are being used with increasing frequency to potentially provide personal support to older adults living in long ‐term care facilities. Social robots can be used to help alleviate depressive symptoms when used in group activities. (Source: Journal of Nursing Scholarship)

Integrative Literature Review Examining Factors Affecting Patient Safety With Robotic ‐Assisted and Laparoscopic Surgeries
ConclusionsThis integrative literature review identifies a dearth of evidence examining factors affecting patient safety during robotic ‐assisted and laparoscopic surgeries. It draws attention to the complexities with teamwork, intraoperative communication and disruptions during robotic‐assisted and laparoscopic surgeries. Although robotic‐assisted surgery is generally seen as safe and effective, this review highlights the nee d for education and training that focuses on non‐technical skills development, disruption prevention and alertness in anticipating and minimising risk.Clinical RelevanceThe evidence from this...

Communication With Physicians as a Mediator in the Relationship Between the Nursing Work Environment and Select Nurse Outcomes in Jordan
ConclusionsDepending on the nurse outcome, communication was a significant mediator for various unit types. These results may be related to the type of work that is done in each unit and the influence of patient care. Communication is one of many mechanisms that can specify how a positive nursing work environment can contribute to nurses ’ job satisfaction and intent to stay.Clinical RelevanceA potential solution to the nursing shortage in Jordan emerges by identifying communication with physicians as a mediator in the relationship between the work environment and selected nurse outcomes. The Woodhull Study Revisited: Nurses ’ Representation in Health News Media 20 Years Later
ConclusionsNurses remain invisible in health news media, despite their increasing levels of education, unique roles, and expertise.Clinical RelevanceNurses ’ clinical expertise is accompanied by unique perspectives on health, illness, and health care; but the public is not benefiting from the wisdom and insight that nurses can provide in health news stories. Stressful Life Events in Young Adults With Type 1 Diabetes in the U.S. T1D Exchange Clinic Registry
ConclusionsThese findings suggest that, for young adults with T1D, the experience of stressful life events may increase their risk for poorer glycemic control, possibly by disrupting adherence with insulin doses.Clinical RelevanceFurther exploration of these relationships may allow for the potential for identifying those at risk and assisting them with more positive approaches to managing stressful events. Embracing the Focus of the Discipline of Nursing: Critical Caring Pedagogy
ConclusionsWhen nurse educators ground teaching and learning practice in nursing's own theoretical and philosophic foundation, they teach nursing in powerful ways that show nursing values and ideals through action, revealing deeper meanings of the words that form texts, lectures, and objectives set forth in a curriculum outline.Clinical RelevanceNursing students who experience education that is grounded in nursing's own disciplinary focus acquire an appreciation of nursing's disciplinary knowledge grounded in experience, paving the way for grounding their eventual practice in nursing theoretical perspectives. Satisfaction and Technology Evaluation of a Telehealth Robotic Program to Optimize Healthy Independent Living for Older Adults
ConclusionsThe T ‐CHAT program demonstrated high ratings for satisfaction (usefulness, ease of use, acceptability) and for evaluation of the telepresence robot technology. Further refinement of the T‐CHAT program is warranted, as is testing outcomes of this potentially viable mode of healthcare delivery.Clinical RelevanceRobotics is the wave of the future and provides an innovative mode of delivery to address health promotion and chronic illness management in older adults. Satisfaction and technology evaluation of robotic technology is paramount prior to implementation of such programs into practice. (Source: Journal o...

Care Personnel's Attitudes and Fears Toward Care Robots in Elderly Care: A Comparison of Data from the Care Personnel in Finland and Japan
DiscussionThe data from the Japanese care personnel bring new perspectives to the concept of a close human –robot relationship. The differences seen in the results between Finland and Japan can be partly explained by cultural dissimilarity, but it is also known that Japan is a more developed country with regard to the use of robotics in nursing care. The research highlights the importance of cultural f actors when examining the issue of care robotics. The factors affecting fear are a concern that care robots would be used to replace people, the dehumanization of treatment, and an increased loneliness in the elderly. Thus...

Practice Environment Characteristics Associated With Missed Nursing Care
ConclusionsGood environments were significantly associated with lower levels of missed care. The impact on missed care differed by the characteristics of the practice environment.Clinical RelevanceHospital and nursing administrators should maintain good practice environments for nurses to reduce missed care activities and thus potentially improve patient outcomes. Specifically, their efforts should be targeted on improving staffing and resource adequacy and nurse –physician relations and on reducing workloads on hospital affairs.
