Distribution of splenic arterial flow and segmental spleen volume for partial splenic arterial embolization
CONCLUSION: The present findings on segmental spleen volume are useful for estimating infarction volume in cases of partial splenic arterial embolization.PMID:38072420 | DOI:10.1272/jnms.JNMS.2024_91-108 (Source: Journal of Nippon Medical School)

Atypical clinical courses of Graves' disease confound differential diagnosis of hyperthyroidism
CONCLUSION: Given that atypical GD may confound the diagnosis of thyrotoxicosis, it is essential to follow the patient as a tentative diagnosis, whatever the diagnosis. This is the first report clearly demonstrating that so far there is no gold standard for the diagnosis of GD. It is therefore urgent to establish a consensus on the definition of GD so that the specificity and sensitivity of future diagnostic tests can be determined.PMID:38072422 | DOI:10.1272/jnms.JNMS.2024_91-104 (Source: Journal of Nippon Medical School)

A case of renal abscess mimicking metastatic lesion in a patient with lung carcinosarcoma
We present the case of a 69-year-old woman with left renal masses on follow-up computed tomography (CT) after surgery for pT2aN0M0 lung carcinosarcoma. The masses were localized only in the left kidney without suspected metastatic lesions at other sites. The patient was referred to our department for further evaluation and treatment under a diagnosis of suspected metastatic lung carcinosarcoma of the left kidney. On enhanced CT, the left renal masses, the largest of which had a diameter of 40×36 mm had thick irregular walls gradually enhanced by the contrast media and an internal low-attenuation area. The masses showed he...

Methylation of PLK-1 Potentially Drives Bendamustine Resistance in Leukemia Cells
CONCLUSIONS: Our findings indicate that the methylation of the PLK-1 gene plays a pivotal role in modulating PLK-1 expression and is central to the development of bendamustine resistance in leukemia cells.PMID:38072417 | DOI:10.1272/jnms.JNMS.2024_91-206 (Source: Journal of Nippon Medical School)

Safety and feasibility of laparoscopic liver resection with the clamp-crush method using the BiSect
CONCLUSIONS: Compared with LLR using the CUSA, the clamp-crush method using the BiSect in LLR is a safe and useful liver transection technique. Further study should be conducted to clarify whether BiSect is safe and useful in LLR for patients with other tumor types and patients who undergo other procedures.PMID:38072418 | DOI:10.1272/jnms.JNMS.2024_91-112 (Source: Journal of Nippon Medical School)

Usefulness of self-selected scenarios for simple triage and rapid treatment method using virtual reality
CONCLUSION: Our results confirmed the educational usefulness of selective VR for active learning of START. Therefore, VR combined with live lectures and simulations would be an optimal educational technique.PMID:38072419 | DOI:10.1272/jnms.JNMS.2024_91-111 (Source: Journal of Nippon Medical School)
