Etiological Factors and Symptom Triggers in Functional Motor Symptoms and Functional Seizures: A Pilot Investigation
CONCLUSIONS: Participants with FMS or FS reported diverse biopsychosocial etiological factors and symptom triggers. Ongoing psychological symptoms and lifetime adverse experiences were associated with worse HRQoL. Future studies will examine these factors in larger samples of individuals with FMS or FS to better understand their shared and distinct etiological underpinnings.PMID:38481167 | DOI:10.1176/appi.neuropsych.20230103 (Source: Journal of Neuropsychiatry and Clinical Neurosciences)

Reduced Subjective Cognitive Concerns With Neurobehavioral Therapy in Functional Seizures and Traumatic Brain Injury
CONCLUSIONS: Subjective cognitive concerns are common among people with TBI and functional seizures and may be related to general mental health and obsessive-compulsive symptoms. Evidence-based neurobehavioral therapy for functional seizures is a reasonable treatment option to address such concerns in this population, although additional studies in culturally diverse samples are needed. In addition, people with functional seizures would likely benefit from rehabilitation specifically targeted toward cognitive functioning.PMID:38481168 | DOI:10.1176/appi.neuropsych.20230138 (Source: Journal of Neuropsychiatry and Clinical Neurosciences)

Iron Supplementation in Management of Neurodevelopmental Disorders: Systematic Review, Meta-Analysis, and Qualitative Synthesis
CONCLUSIONS: Further research is needed to examine the role of iron supplementation in the management of ADHD and neurodevelopmental disorders more generally. Additionally, iron supplementation comes with risks, including death in the case of overdose.PMID:38343311 | DOI:10.1176/appi.neuropsych.20230081 (Source: Journal of Neuropsychiatry and Clinical Neurosciences)

CONCLUSIONS: The findings demonstrate that structural lesions can lead to FND symptoms, possibly explained through changes in relevant mechanistic functional networks.PMID:38343312 | DOI:10.1176/appi.neuropsych.20220182 (Source: Journal of Neuropsychiatry and Clinical Neurosciences)
