Cerebral glucose hypometabolism and hypoperfusion of cingulate gyrus: an imaging biomarker of autoimmune encephalitis with psychiatric symptoms
ConclusionImpaired cingulate cortex function in AE may be the potential mechanism of psychiatric symptoms. Hypometabolism of ACC is an independent prognostic factor predicting an unfavorable psychiatric prognosis in AE. (Source: Journal of Neurology)

Clinical, biological, electrophysiological and therapeutic profile of patients with anti-MAG neuropathy according to MYD88L265P and CXCR4 mutations and underlying haemopathy
ConclusionsMYD88L265P mutation and underlying haemopathies are not predictive of a more severe disease. However, in cases of resistant and progressive neuropathy, they provide an opportunity to prescribe newly available drugs such as Bruton tyrosine kinase inhibitors. (Source: Journal of Neurology)

Social cognition and behavioral changes in patients with posterior cortical atrophy
This study compared 157 patients with PCA in early stages of the disease with 352 healthy controls (HC), 202 typical AD (tAD), and 177 logopenic variant primary progressi ve aphasia (lvPPA) patients from the National Alzheimer's Coordinating Center (NACC) dataset. They were compared using clinician ratings of behavioral symptoms, informant- and clinician-filled questionnaires and patient-facing tests of behavior and social cognition. Results showed that PCA individua ls exhibited many behavioral symptoms, the more frequently reported being anxiety, depression, apathy, and irritability. During cognitive testing, clinicians ...

Dietary inflammatory index, genetic susceptibility and risk of incident dementia: a prospective cohort study from UK biobank
ConclusionsThe DII scores were independently associated with an augmented risk for all-cause dementia, AD and VD. Additionally, high AD-GRS with higher DII scores was significantly associated with a  higher risk of AD. (Source: Journal of Neurology)

Immersive virtual reality-based rehabilitation for subacute stroke: a randomized controlled trial
ConclusionsImVR-based rehabilitation is an effective tool that can improve the recovery of UE functional capabilities of subacute stroke patients when added to standard care. These improvements were associated with distinctive brain changes at two post-stroke timepoints. The study results will benefit future patients with stroke and provide evidence for a promising new method of stroke rehabilitation.Trial registrationClinicalTrials.gov identifier: NCT03086889. Safety and outcomes of different endovascular treatment techniques for anterior circulation ischaemic stroke in the elderly: data from the Imperial College Thrombectomy Registry
ConclusionsOur study suggests that EVT for LVO stroke in the elderly could be safe. The use of thromboaspiration was associated with positive reperfusion outcome in this population. Further studies in larger series are warranted to confirm the present results and to evaluate the safety and efficacy of EVT in the elderly and oldest adults. (Source: Journal of Neurology)

Risk of intracranial hemorrhage in brain arteriovenous malformations: a systematic review and meta-analysis
ConclusionSignificant risk factors for bAVMs hemorrhage include initial hemorrhage, any deep venous drainage, and associated aneurysms. Deep venous drainage involvement is a risk factor in cases without prior treatment, those with bAVM  >  3 cm, and cases managed with multimodal interventions. Deep bAVM involvement also emerges as a risk factor in cases >  3 cm and those managed with multimodal approaches. (Source: Journal of Neurology)

Patient acceptance of teleneurology across neurologic conditions
DiscussionPatients find their outpatient teleneurology experience highly acceptable independent of neurologic condition. Those with more comorbidity report higher acceptability. Use of teleneurology may be useful and acceptable across many outpatient neurologic conditions including for more medically complex patients. (Source: Journal of Neurology)

Risk and sex-specific trends of dementia and stroke in Italy Compared to European and high-income countries and the world: global implications
ConclusionsWhile decreases in new strokes and IHDs are encouraging, new approaches to their joint prevention are required to reverse the rising dementia trends, especially among women. Life course approaches to promoting holistic brain health should be implemented at the community, national, and international levels before the growing trends become overwhelming. Different pain phenotypes are associated with anti-Caspr2 autoantibodies
AbstractAutoantibodies against contactin-associated protein 2 (Caspr2) not only induce limbic autoimmune encephalitis but are also associated with pain conditions. Here, we analyzed clinical data on pain in a large cohort of patients included into the German Network for Research in Autoimmune Encephalitis. Out of 102 patients in our cohort, pain was a frequent symptom (36% of all patients), often severe (63.6% of the patients with pain) and/or even the major symptom (55.6% of the patients with pain). Pain phenotypes differed between patients. Cluster analysis revealed two major phenotypes including mostly distal-symmetric ...
