Treatment evaluation by volumetric segmentation in pediatric optic pathway glioma: evaluation of the effect of bevacizumab on intra-tumor components
ConclusionTreatment with BVZ of progressive pediatric OPGs leads to a decrease of both total tumor volume and cystic volume for the majority of OPGs with emphasis on the first three months. NF1 and KIAA1549-BRAF fusion related OPGs showed a different (early) treatment effect regarding the tumor enhancing component on MRI, which did not correlate with tumor volume changes. Future research is necessary to further evaluate these findings and its relevance to clinical outcome parameters. (Source: Journal of Neuro-Oncology)

Automated identification and quantification of metastatic brain tumors and perilesional edema based on a deep learning neural network
ConclusionThis paper introduces a deep learning model for the automated segmentation and quantification of brain metastatic tumors and perilesional edema trained using only T1cWI and T2WI. This technique could facilitate further research on metastatic tumors and perilesional edema as well as other intracranial lesions. (Source: Journal of Neuro-Oncology)

Oncogene-induced senescence in meningiomas —an immunohistochemical study
ConclusionOur findings suggest the senescence activation in meningiomas grade 2 as a potential mechanism for the restraining of tumour growth and give hope for applying of promising senolytic therapy. (Source: Journal of Neuro-Oncology)

MGMT promoter methylation in 1p19q-intact gliomas
ConclusionsThis ancillary analysis supports conclusions from the CATNON trial for adjuvant TMZ as standard-of-care for anaplastic astrocytomas (IDH-mutant and 1p19q-intact), irrespective ofMGMT status. Determining the optimal strategy for diffuse gliomas that are IDH-wildtype will be particularly important.MGMT promoter methylation should be considered as a stratification factor in future clinical trials for these patients. Clinical course of ventriculoperitoneal shunting for hydrocephalus following glioblastoma surgery: a systematic review and meta-analysis
ConclusionsOf the limited proportion of glioblastoma patients requiring VPS surgery for hydrocephalus after index surgery, 78% patients are expected to show symptom improvement, and 24% can expect to undergo revision surgery. An individualized approach to each patient is required to optimize both index glioblastoma and VPS surgeries to account for anatomy and goals of care given the poor prognosis of this tumor overall. Neuropsychological functioning during chemotherapy with temozolomide in high-grade glioma patients: a retrospective single centre study
ConclusionsTMZ proved to be a secure treatment with no negative side effects on cognition and on level of daily autonomy, even at the highest dosage used. This is a positive finding which enables clinicians to reassure patients about the absence of significant negative effects of TMZ on their daily life functioning. In this view, eventual cognitive changes during treatment might not be attributed to chemotherapy but to other events such as tumour relapse. (Source: Journal of Neuro-Oncology)

Cerebrospinal fluid circulating tumor DNA contributes to the detection and characterization of leptomeningeal metastasis in non-small cell lung cancer
ConclusionsCSF-based ctDNA analysis is crucial for detecting and characterizing genetic alterations in NSCLC LM. The distinct genetic profiles in CSF and extracranial tissues emphasize the need for personalized treatment approaches. (Source: Journal of Neuro-Oncology)

Individualized discrimination of tumor progression from treatment-related changes in different types of adult-type diffuse gliomas using [11C]methionine PET
ConclusionThis work confirms that MET PET has varying diagnostic performances in distinguishing TP from TRCs within three types of adult-type diffuse gliomas, and highlights its high diagnostic accuracy inIDH-mutant and 1p/19q-codeleted oligodendroglioma and potential prognostic value forIDH-mutant gliomas, particularlyIDH-mutant astrocytoma. Anatomical changes in resection cavity during brain radiotherapy
ConclusionRCs are dynamic after surgery. Potentially, an additional margin in brain cancer patients with an RC should be considered, to avoid insufficient target coverage. Future research on local recurrence patterns is recommended. (Source: Journal of Neuro-Oncology)

Preoperative assessment of eloquence in neurosurgery: a systematic review
ConclusionsThere were major differences in the definitions and assessment methods of eloquence, and none of them proved to be satisfactory to express eloquence as an objective, quantifiable, preoperative factor to use in glioma decision making. Therefore, we propose the development of a novel, objective, reliable, preoperative classification system to assess eloquence. This should in the future aid neurosurgeons in their preoperative decision making to facilitate personalized treatment paradigms and to improve surgical outcomes. (Source: Journal of Neuro-Oncology)

Ganciclovir as a potential treatment for glioma: a systematic review and meta-analysis
ConclusionsThis meta-analysis showed that ganciclovir significantly improved the prognosis of glioma patients. Therefore, we suggest that more cases of ganciclovir as a glioma treatment can be conducted, or a large clinical trial can be designed. (Source: Journal of Neuro-Oncology)

Focused ultrasound combined with radiotherapy for malignant brain tumor: a preclinical and clinical study
ConclusionReirradiation is becoming an option after disease recurrence for both primary and secondary malignant brain tumors since systemic therapy significantly prolongs survival in cancer patients. The mechanism behind the synergistic effect of RT-FUS in preclinical model needs further study. The clinical evidence from the interim analysis of an ongoing clinical trial (NCT01628406) showed a combination of RT-FUS was safe (no FUS-related adverse effect). A comprehensive analysis of radiation dosimetry and FUS energy distribution is expected after completing the final recruitment. (Source: Journal of Neuro-Oncology)
