Neuropsychological impairment in primary malignant brain tumor patients with awake craniotomy: a hospital-based registration study
ConclusionIn awake craniotomy, patients with left-sided brain tumors had worse cognitive function than those with right-sided tumors in terms of global function, language, and attention. 77% of patients with right-sided tumors had neuropsychological impairment. Therefore, a comprehensive neuropsychological evaluation and awake craniotomy are necessary for patients with brain tumors. (Source: Journal of Neuro-Oncology)

Long-term treatment outcomes of temozolomide-based chemoradiation in patients with adult-type diffuse IDH-mutant grade 2 astrocytoma
ConclusionsTMZ-based chemoradiation is associated with survival benefit in patients with grade 2 IDH-mutant astrocytoma. For this group of patients, chemoradiation can be deferred until time of progression in younger patients receiving extensive resection, while early treatment should be recommended in high-risk patients. Management of chordoma and chondrosarcoma with definitive dose-escalated single-fraction spine stereotactic radiosurgery
ConclusionDefinitive dose-escalated SSRS to 24  Gy in 1 fraction appears to be a safe and effective treatment for achieving durable local control in chordoma or chondrosarcoma involving the spine, and may hold particular importance as a low-morbidity alternative to surgery in selected cases. Is it advisable to perform radiosurgery for EGFR-TKI-controlled brain metastases? A retrospective study of the role of radiosurgery in lung cancer treatment
ConclusionsWhile upfront TKI alone proved highly effective in BM control, this study also demonstrated the outcomes of SRS when implemented concurrently with TKI or as salvage therapy for TKI-uncontrolled BMs. This study also presents a strategy of the precise timing and targeting of SRS to lesions in progression. Durable tumor regression and restoration of neurologic function after treatment with anti-PD-1 in patients with functionally unresectable cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma with perineural spread into the cavernous sinus
ConclusionAdministration of anti-PD-1 to patients with CSCC with perineural spread into the cavernous sinus can generate durable anti-tumor regressions and restore CN function, while sparing the morbidity associated with surgical resection and/or radiotherapy. Our findings add to emerging literature supporting this treatment approach for this patient population. (Source: Journal of Neuro-Oncology)

Cerebrospinal fluid exosomal protein alterations via proteomic analysis of NSCLC with leptomeningeal carcinomatosis
ConclusionWe investigated the application of label free and PRM based proteomics to detect key proteins related to LC. FN1 may serve as potential indicator to classify LC and NSCLC. Extracellular matrix (ECM) and epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) are important in the process of LC. These data is promising for early prediction and diagnosis of LC. Clinical characteristics and surgical outcomes of primary intracranial angiosarcomas
ConclusionIn this study, we found that PIAs have a higher incidence in males than in females, and most cases show evidence of old hemorrhage on preoperative MRI. Through our statistical analysis, GTR plays a crucial role in for treating this rare disease. Further clinical data are needed to validate our conclusions. (Source: Journal of Neuro-Oncology)

Long-term neurocognitive function and quality of life after multimodal therapy in adult glioma patients: a prospective long-term follow-up
ConclusionsMultimodal glioma therapy seems to affect neurocognition less than generally assumed. Even patients with unilateral hippocampal irradiation with  >  50 Gy showed no profound cognitive decline in this series. (Source: Journal of Neuro-Oncology)

Patterns of treatment and outcomes of patients with brain-only metastatic breast cancer
ConclusionPatients with brain-only MBC had a longer bsPFS and OS than those with ECM. Patients with HER2+  and TNBC were more likely to have brain-only disease compared to those with HR+/HER2- MBC. (Source: Journal of Neuro-Oncology)

Frailty and postoperative outcomes in brain tumor patients: a systematic review subdivided by tumor etiology
ConclusionOur review identified several patterns of overall postsurgical outcomes reporting for patients with brain tumors and frailty. To date, reviews of frailty in patients with brain tumors have been largely limited to certain frailty indices, analyzing all patients together regardless of lesion etiology. Although this technique is beneficial in providing a general overview of frailty ’s use for brain tumor patients, given each tumor pathology has its own unique etiology, this combined approach potentially neglects key nuances governing frailty’s use and prognostic value. The evolving role of reirradiation in the management of recurrent brain tumors
AbstractDespite aggressive management consisting of surgery, radiation therapy (RT), and systemic therapy given alone or in combination, a significant proportion of patients with brain tumors will experience tumor recurrence. For these patients, no standard of care exists and management of either primary or metastatic recurrent tumors remains challenging.Advances in imaging and RT technology have enabled more precise tumor localization and dose delivery, leading to a reduction in the volume of health brain tissue exposed to high radiation doses. Radiation techniques have evolved from three-dimensional (3-D) conformal RT to...
