Adoption of Consensus Guidelines for Safe Prevention of the Primary Cesarean Delivery by Freestanding Birth Centers
DiscussionWe found no evidence that making these practice changes was associated with better outcomes. Two hours of a lack of documented cervical change in active labor is likely long enough to diagnose arrested progress in labor. Research on proportion of morbidity and mortality associated with prolonged labor could inform practice guidelines for transfers. (Source: Journal of Midwifery and Women's Health)

A Brief Depression Screening Tool for Perinatal Clinical Practice: The Performance of the PHQ ‐2 Compared with the PHQ‐9
DiscussionThe PHQ-2 provided acceptable accuracy for screening for depression compared with the PHQ-9. In perinatal screening practice, a threshold of 2 or greater should be preferred as this ensures high sensitivity, missing only approximately 6% to 8% of cases, and a false-positive rate (percentage of women classified as affected with depressive symptoms when they are not) of 19% to 25%. How to Foster Effective Midwife –Obstetrician Collaboration on Labor and Birth Units: Qualitative Analysis of Experiences of Clinicians in the United States
DiscussionThese findings hold potential to inform clinicians and health care leaders on ways to foster effective collaboration between midwives and obstetricians on labor and birth units. This in turn can improve quality of care for birthing persons, perinatal outcomes and clinician job satisfaction. (Source: Journal of Midwifery and Women's Health)

Prenatal Considerations and Outcomes for Girls Aged 14 and Under: Development of a Multidisciplinary Team in a Large Tertiary Care Facility
DiscussionIn contrast to most studies, this Adolescent Care Team did not find a high rate of premature birth in early adolescents. Further work by this team is needed to compare the data obtained during this period with data on similar adolescents who have given birth at Parkland in prior years. In addition, comparing outcomes of early adolescents with those aged 15 to 19, who were not included in the Adolescent Care Team, will help to understand the impact that such a team or similar intervention might have on this vulnerable population. The Survivor Moms ’ Companion Trauma‐Specific Perinatal Psychoeducation Intervention in a Community Outreach Program: An Open Pilot
DiscussionThese findings suggest that a psychoeducational intervention with tutor support can be influential in fostering positive mental health changes in a high-risk perinatal population. CHWs with intervention-specific training can be effective at implementing a trauma-specific intervention. (Source: Journal of Midwifery and Women's Health)

Screening, Treatment, and Monitoring of Iron Deficiency Anemia in Pregnancy and Postpartum
This article reviews the evidence for best practices for screening, treatment, and continued monitoring of iron deficiency anemia during pregnancy and postpartum. Maternal, fetal, and neonatal implications are reviewed, as well as the risks and benefits of treatment options. Finally, an evidence-based algorithm is proposed to guide clinicians on continued monitoring after treatment. (Source: Journal of Midwifery and Women's Health)

Pregnant and Postpartum Women's Perceptions of Barriers to and Enablers of Physical Activity During Pregnancy: A Qualitative Systematic Review
DiscussionThe results of this systematic review have clinical implications for perinatal care providers, as the overall benefits of physical activity during pregnancy have been well documented in previous studies. The authors recommend clinicians aim to explore pregnant women's perspectives on physical activity during pregnancy in order to be able to address their perceived barriers to and enablers of physical activity during pregnancy. Choosing a Birth Setting: A Shared Decision ‐Making Approach
AbstractPerinatal outcomes vary widely depending on individual birth settings (birth center, home, and hospital). The purpose of this case study is to explore a patient-centered, shared decision-making approach to achieve an informed, values-based choice about birth settings. Engaging in a shared decision-making approach regarding birth setting options would support people to have the information and ability to judge for themselves how benefits and risks across birth center, home, and hospital settings would best fit with their values and personal health. A patient decision aid about birth setting options could facilitate ...
