Early enteral nutrition in patients with out-of-hospital cardiac arrest under target temperature management was associated with a lower 7-day bacteremia rate: A  post-hoc analysis of a retrospective cohort study
CONCLUSION: In OHCA patients treated with TTM, early EN was associated with a lower 7-day bacteremia rate. Furthermore, the application of early EN in this population was well tolerated without significant adverse events.PMID:38199822 | DOI:10.1016/j.jmii.2023.12.007 (Source: Journal of Microbiology, Immunology, and Infection)

Monkeypox: An outbreak of a rare viral disease
J Microbiol Immunol Infect. 2024 Feb;57(1):1-10. doi: 10.1016/j.jmii.2023.12.006. Epub 2023 Dec 28.ABSTRACTMonkeypox is a viral zoonotic disease rarely found outside Africa. Monkeypox can be spread from person to person through close contact with an infected person, and the rate of transmission is not very high. In addition, monkeypox and variola virus are both pox viruses, and the spread of monkeypox virus was also controlled to some extent by the smallpox campaign, so monkeypox was not widely paid attention to. However, as smallpox vaccination is phased out in various countries or regions, people's resistance to orthopox...

Safety and effectiveness of remdesivir for the treatment of COVID-19 patients with end-stage renal disease: A retrospective cohort study
CONCLUSION: Remdesivir is safe for use in patients with COVID-19 and ESRD; no increased adverse effects were noted compared with patients without ESRD. However, the effectiveness of remdesivir use in patients with COVID-19 and ESRD remains uncertain.PMID:38135644 | DOI:10.1016/j.jmii.2023.12.003 (Source: Journal of Microbiology, Immunology, and Infection)

Recommendations and guidelines for endoscope reprocessing: Current position statement of digestive endoscopic society of Taiwan
J Microbiol Immunol Infect. 2023 Dec 11:S1684-1182(23)00215-3. doi: 10.1016/j.jmii.2023.12.001. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTReprocessing of gastrointestinal (GI) endoscopes and accessories is an essential part of patient safety and quality control in GI endoscopy centers. However, current endoscopic reprocessing guidelines or procedures are not adequate to ensure patient-safe endoscopy. Approximately 5.4 % of the clinically used duodenoscopes remain contaminated with high-concern microorganisms. Thus, the Digestive Endoscopy Society of Taiwan (DEST) sets standards for the reprocessing of GI endoscopes and accessories in ...
