HIV infection is associated with upregulated circulating levels of the inflammaging miR-21-5p
CONCLUSION: miR-21-5p circulating levels are involved in inflammation and oxidative stress mechanisms in HIV patients even after one year of ART or in elite controllers.PMID:37562995 | DOI:10.1016/j.jmii.2023.07.011 (Source: Journal of Microbiology, Immunology, and Infection)

Inhaled corticosteroid for patients with COVID-19: A systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials
CONCLUSIONS: Additional ICS use, particularly inhaled budesonide may help symptom relief in patients with COVID-19. However, ICS use did not help reduce the risk of urgent care, ED visit, hospitalization, or death.PMID:37562996 | DOI:10.1016/j.jmii.2023.07.008 (Source: Journal of Microbiology, Immunology, and Infection)

The composition of the maternal breastmilk microbiota influences the microbiota network structure during early infancy
CONCLUSION: Our work suggests that maternal metabolic status plays a crucial role in Staphylococcus/Streptococcus competition in BM, which in turn can impact the development of the infant microbiota. Our microbiota co-occurrence network analysis might serve as a helpful bioinformatic tool to monitor microbiota maturation during early infancy.PMID:37544808 | DOI:10.1016/j.jmii.2023.07.005 (Source: Journal of Microbiology, Immunology, and Infection)

Metagenomics assists in the diagnosis of a refractory, culture-negative pyoderma gangrenosum-like ulcer caused by Helicobacter cinaedi in a patient with primary agammaglobulinemia
We reported a refractory and culture-negative pyoderma gangrenosum-like ulcer caused by H. cinaedi in a patient with primary agammaglobulinemia. Metagenomic next-generation sequencing (mNGS) was applied for the identification of H. cinaedi and prolonged minocycline and amoxicillin-clavulanate potassium was used to eradicate the infection. Given the difficulties in culturing this organism, it's highly possible that H cinaedi infections have been overlooked. We suggest that early consideration of H. cinaedi infection should be suspected in immunocompromised patients presenting with unexplained skin lesions as the appropriate...
