Antioxidant and Anti-Obesity Effects of < em > Juglans mandshurica < /em > in 3T3-L1 Cells and High-Fat Diet Obese Rats
J Microbiol Biotechnol. 2023 Dec 18;34(4):1-10. doi: 10.4014/jmb.2311.11032. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTJuglans mandshurica Maxim. walnut (JMW) is well-known for the treatment of dermatosis, cancer, gastritis, diarrhea, and leukorrhea in Korea. However, the molecular mechanism underlying its anti-obesity activity remains unknown. In the current study, we aimed to determine whether JMW can influence adipogenesis in 3T3-L1 preadipocytes and high-fat diet rats and determine the antioxidant activity. The 20% ethanol extract of JMW (JMWE) had a total polyphenol content of 133.33±2.60 mg GAE/g. Considering the antioxidant ca...

Aptamer Based SPREETA Sensor for the Detection of < em > Porphyromonas gingivalis < /em > G-Protein
J Microbiol Biotechnol. 2023 Dec 18;34(3):1-10. doi: 10.4014/jmb.2310.10042. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTWe have developed an aptamer that specifically binds to Porphyromonas gingivalis to reduce the cellular damage caused by P. gingivalis infection and applied it as a biosensor. P. gingivalis is one of the major pathogens causing destructive periodontal disease among the periodontal microorganisms constituting complex biofilms. PGP (Porphyromonas gingivalis G-protein) known to play an important role in the transmission of germs was used as a target protein for the screening of aptamer. The aptamer that has binds to the ...

Fermented < em > Protaetia brevitarsis < /em > Larvae Ameliorates Chronic Ethanol-Induced Hepatotoxicity in Mice via AMPK and TLR-4/TGF- β1 Pathways
This study evaluated the hepatoprotective effect of fermented Protaetia brevitarsis larvae (FPB) in ethanol-induced liver injury mice. As a result of amino acids in FPB, 18 types of amino acids including essential amino acids were identified. In the results of in vitro tests, FPB increased alcohol dehydrogenase (ADH) and aldehyde dehydrogenase (ALDH) activities. In addition, FPB treatment increased cell viability on ethanol- and H2O2-induced HepG2 cells. FPB ameliorated serum biomarkers related to hepatoxicity including glutamic oxaloacetic transaminase, glutamine pyruvic transaminase, total bilirubin, and lactate dehydrog...

Change in the Gut Microbiota of Lactating Sows and Their Piglets by Inclusion of Dietary Spray-Dried Plasma in Sow Diets
This study aimed to investigate the effects of dietary spray-dried plasma (SDP) on the gut microbiota of lactating sows and their piglets. A total 12 sows were randomly assigned to one of two dietary treatment groups in a completely randomized design. The treatments were a sow diet based on corn and soybean meal (CON), and a CON diet with an added 1% SDP. The sows were fed the dietary treatments from d 30 before farrowing to weaning (d 28). The fecal samples of three sows from each treatment and two of their randomly selected piglets were collected to verify their fecal microbiota. There were no differences in the alpha di...
