Usefulness of carotid duplex ultrasonography in predicting residual large-vessel occlusions after intravenous recombinant tissue plasminogen activator therapy in patients with acute ischemic stroke
ConclusionPrediction of residual LVO with 100% sensitivity may be feasible by adding CUS to NIHSS score  >  10, the presence of eye deviation, and hyperdense MCA sign. (Source: Journal of Medical Ultrasonics)

Evaluation of simulation-based ultrasound education using a bladder simulator for medical students in Japan: a prospective observational study
ConclusionUltrasound education using a bladder simulator increases confidence scores by imparting competencies related to device operation, image acquisition, image evaluation and clinical application, and it improves students ’ learning impression. This is a useful method for introductory ultrasound education for medical students. (Source: Journal of Medical Ultrasonics)

Point-of-care ultrasound in the head and neck region
AbstractPoint-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) in the head and neck region plays a particularly significant role in the diagnosis and treatment of upper airway stenosis, swelling, and painful diseases in the neck, and in the evaluation of swallowing function. Therefore, it should be performed in various medical settings beyond the boundaries of the clinical department such as general medicine, emergency medicine, anesthesiology, orthopedics, and pediatrics. The target diseases are salivary gland disease, lymph node disease, pharyngeal disease, laryngeal disease, esophageal disease, thyroid disease, and dysphagia and dyspnea due ...

Why is the depth/width ratio of a typical fibroadenoma small in breast ultrasonography?
ConclusionThis study revealed that the small D/W ratio of fibroadenomas on ultrasonography may be attributable to the horizontal force acting on the breast against the chest wall in the supine position, the elasticity of the fibroadenoma, and the lack of adhesion between the mass and surrounding tissue. Current status and future perspective of sonodynamic therapy for cancer
In this study, we introduce sonodynamic therapy (SDT), which is expected to be a new cancer treatment modality. SDT is a promising option for minimally invasive treatment of solid tumors and comprises three different components: sonosensitizers, ultrasound, and molecular oxygen. These components are harmless individually, but in combination they generate cytotoxic reactive oxygen species (ROS). We will explore the molecular mechanism by which SDT kills cancer cells, the class of sonosensitizers, drug delivery methods, and in vitro and in vivo studies. At the same time, we will highlight clinical applications for cancer tre...

Ultrasound diagnosis of carotid artery stenosis and occlusion
AbstractCarotid artery ultrasonography is capable of diagnosing or inferring the presence or absence of stenosis or occlusion of the internal carotid artery (ICA) and vertebral artery (VA), as well as the not directly observable distal ICA, middle cerebral artery (MCA), and basilar artery (BA). Stenosis at the origin of the ICA is mainly evaluated using the parameter peak systolic velocity (PSV), with values of  ≥ 200–230 cm/s indicating severe stenosis. Recently, the acceleration time ratio has been reported for diagnosis of ICA origin stenosis. An indicator called the end-diastolic (ED) ratio can be used for dia...

Evaluation of atezolizumab plus bevacizumab combination therapy for hepatocellular carcinoma using contrast-enhanced ultrasonography
ConclusionThe results of this study suggest that CEUS at 5  weeks after initiation of Atezo + Bev may predict PFS in HCC patients. Changes to the treatment plan may need to be considered in patients with post AUC >  61.3. (Source: Journal of Medical Ultrasonics)
