Assessing the stability and reproducibility of the active breathing coordinator (abc) system for deep inspiration breath-hold technique in left-sided breast cancer patients
The use of the deep inspiration breath-hold technique (DIBH) in left breast radiation therapy has been associated with increased cardiac morbidity and mortality. The Active Breathing Coordinator System (ABC) was developed to mitigate the radiation dose to the heart. This system involves the insertion of a plastic tube with a mouthpiece into the patient's mouth, allowing them to breathe through it while holding their breath. The ABC device is connected to a computer, enabling monitoring of the patient's breathing pattern. (Source: Journal of Medical Imaging and Radiation Sciences)
