Minimum data elements for the Australian Particle Therapy Clinical Quality Registry
ConclusionsThe MDEs provide the core mandatory data items for the national PT registry. Registry data collection for PT is paramount in the ongoing global effort to accumulate more robust clinical evidence regarding PT patient and tumour outcomes, quantifying the magnitude of clinical benefit and justifying the relatively higher costs of PT investment. Assessing the necessity of intravenous contrast for computed tomography in the acute undifferentiated abdomen
ConclusionOmitting intravenous contrast for abdominal CT in the setting of undifferentiated abdominal pain demonstrated no significant difference in the rate of diagnostic uncertainty. There are significant potential patient, fiscal and societal benefits as well as potential improvements to emergency department efficiency with the reduction of unnecessary intravenous contrast administration. Stereotactic ablation: A game changer?
SummaryFor both primary and metastatic liver cancer, thermal ablation represents an interesting alternative to surgery. However, except for a small fraction of patients, conventional ultrasound- and CT-guided single-probe approaches have not achieved oncologic outcomes comparable with surgery. In this overview, we describe our stereotactic ablation workflow and discuss the short- and long-term results of stereotactic radiofrequency ablation (SRFA) and stereotactic microwave ablation (SMWA)  for the treatment of primary and secondary liver tumours. The advantages of this method are discussed together with a summary of the ...

Prostate ‐specific membrane antigen positron emission tomography detected local failure after post‐prostatectomy radiation therapy: Low rates of out‐of‐field recurrence validates current Australian prostate bed contouring guidelines
ConclusionThe low recurrence rate outside of current prostate bed CTV contouring guidelines is consistent with other studies using contemporary contouring, and validates the efficacy of the current FROGG/EviQ prostate bed CTV definition. (Source: Journal of Medical Imaging and Radiation Oncology)

Radial scar appearances on contrast ‐enhanced mammography
In this study, imaging of 55 patients with a core biopsy diagnosis of radial scar since the introduction of CEM into local practice was reviewed. Nine patients underwent CEM as part of their diagnostic work-up and these appearances are presented as a pictorial essay to demonstrate enhancement patterns of radial scars on CEM in this cohort and consider how this knowledge may influence management. Patterns of practice regarding use of radiation therapy following radical prostatectomy: A survey of Radiation Oncologists and Urologists in Australia and New Zealand
ConclusionThis survey highlights the marked discordance in practice for the management of prostate cancer relapse post-prostatectomy. This is seen not only between specialties but also within the radiation oncology community. This emphasises the need for an updated evidence-based guideline to be produced. Gender ‐inclusive practice in pregnancy determination for transgender, gender diverse and non‐binary patients in medical imaging
SummaryIn recent years, there has been an increased awareness and understanding of the varying gender identities within our society. Consequently, there has also been a need for healthcare providers to be cognizant of the unique needs of a gender-diverse population. Determining the pregnancy status of transgender, gender-diverse and non-binary patients in medical imaging settings has been poorly handled, and there is a lack of standardisation in the Australian and Aotearoa New Zealand setting. The potential risk of exposing a gender-diverse pregnant patient to ionising radiation increases the need for guidance to ensure po...

Assessment of lung doses in patients undergoing total body irradiation for haematological malignancies with and without lung shielding
ConclusionLung doses have been reported for 142 TBI patients using the lying and standing techniques described herein. Lung shielding blocks significantly reduced mean lung doses despite the addition of electron boost fields to the chest wall. (Source: Journal of Medical Imaging and Radiation Oncology)

Delta ‐radiomics‐based models for toxicity prediction in radiotherapy: A systematic review and meta‐analysis
ConclusionDelta-radiomics-based models were found to be promising predictors of predefined end points. Future studies should consider using standardized methods and radiomics features and external validation to the reviewed delta-radiomics model. Research output of radiologists in Australia and New Zealand: Strengths, weaknesses and future directions
ConclusionRadiologists in ANZ are academically active; however, interventions aimed at increasing output could be targeted at certain locations and/or areas within a busy private sector. Time, culture, infrastructure and research support are vital, but personal motivation is also extremely important. (Source: Journal of Medical Imaging and Radiation Oncology)

Persistent median artery on computed tomographic arteriovenous fistulograms in patients on haemodialysis
ConclusionThe PMA prevalence appears to increase with decreasing age and is a frequently encountered anatomical variant. Radiologists assessing forearm vasculature need to be aware of this anatomical variant and potentially include it in their future reports. Further research into the PMA may make its potential use as arterial conduits for AVF, potential donor grafts for coronary artery bypass surgery or additional vascular access options possible. Whether the reducing prevalence with age reflects an overall increasing prevalence is yet to be determined. (Source: Journal of Medical Imaging and Radiation Oncology)

Real ‐world data on patterns and outcomes of radiation therapy for brain metastases in a population‐based cohort of lung cancer patients in Victoria
ConclusionOne-in-five LC patients who received RT for BM had SRS. The improved OS with SRS is likely confounded by patient selection. It is important to reduce 30M by better selecting patients who may not benefit from RT for BM. (Source: Journal of Medical Imaging and Radiation Oncology)
