Cost-effectiveness of volume computed tomography in lung cancer screening: a cohort simulation based on nelson study outcomes
ConclusionsAnnual LCS with volume-based low-dose CT for a high-risk asymptomatic population is cost-effective in the UK, at a threshold of £20,000 per QALY, representing an efficient use of NHS resources with substantially improved outcomes for lung cancer patients, as well as additional societal and economic benefits for society as a whole. National LCS is highly recommended to be implemented in the UK.PMID:38050691 | DOI:10.1080/13696998.2023.2288739 (Source: Journal of Medical Economics)

Assessment of clinical and economic impact  of rivaroxaban plus aspirin vs. aspirin alone as a secondary prophylaxis in patients with chronic and symptomatic peripheral arterial disease in the United States
CONCLUSIONS: Rivaroxaban + aspirin was found to provide positive net clinical benefit on the annual number of MACE/MALE avoided, with a modest increase in the PMPM cost.PMID:38044632 | DOI:10.1080/13696998.2023.2290386 (Source: Journal of Medical Economics)

Evaluating the cost utility of estradiol plus dydrogesterone for the treatment of menopausal women in China
Conclusion: Contingent on the structure and assumptions of the model, combination of estradiol plus dydrogesterone MHT is potentially cost saving in symptomatic women over the age of 45 years in China.PMID:38037348 | DOI:10.1080/13696998.2023.2289297 (Source: Journal of Medical Economics)

Bayesian survival extrapolation for cost-effectiveness analysis: a case study of RELAY for ramucirumab in combination with erlotinib in the treatment of non-small-cell lung cancer
CONCLUSIONS: We demonstrated that both the univariate and joint Bayesian models reduced uncertainty in predicting OS compared to frequentist method. The methodology introduced here will have potential applications in clinical decision-making for other oncology trials.PMID:38035666 | DOI:10.1080/13696998.2023.2272534 (Source: Journal of Medical Economics)

COVID-19 vaccines should be evaluated from the societal perspective
J Med Econ. 2023 Nov 28:1-16. doi: 10.1080/13696998.2023.2287935. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe COVID-19 pandemic demonstrates the importance of valuing vaccines from a broad societal perspective (SP), as opposed to a narrower health-payer perspective (HPP). COVID-19's catastrophic global impacts extend not only to its health-related effects, but also to the profound macroeconomic losses caused by lockdowns required for disease control, leading to the worst global economic crisis in a century. COVID-19 vaccination (CV) has been the central policy tool for resolving this economic crisis, and it has been hypothesized tha...

Economic Review of Point-of-Care EEG
CONCLUSIONS: POC-EEG is a rapid screening tool for NCS and NCSE in critical care and emergency medicine with potential financial benefits through refining clinical management, reducing unnecessary patient transfers and hospital LOS, improving reimbursement, and mitigating burdens on healthcare staff and hospitals. Since POC-EEG has limitations (i.e., no video component and reduced montage), the studies asserted that it did not replace convEEG.PMID:38014443 | DOI:10.1080/13696998.2023.2288422 (Source: Journal of Medical Economics)

Real-world clinical management of individuals with Rett syndrome: a physician survey
CONCLUSION: Although most physicians had experience and were comfortable diagnosing and treating individuals with RTT, better education and support among pediatricians is warranted. Additionally, novel treatments that target multiple symptoms associated with RTT could reduce the burden and improve the QOL of individuals with RTT and their caregivers.PMID:37991281 | DOI:10.1080/13696998.2023.2286778 (Source: Journal of Medical Economics)
