Thank you for the opportunity to reply. The authors accuse us of misleading readers; below are the reasons why we respectfully disagree. (Source: Journal of Manipulative and Physiological Therapeutics)

In Reply: A Missed Opportunity
We agree completely that it is indeed “a missed opportunity” that important scientific dialogue regarding the Summit article1 is occurring outside the journal in which it was submitted. (Source: Journal of Manipulative and Physiological Therapeutics)

Misleading paper by goertz et al
Goertz et al offered an alternate interpretation1 of the data from the Global Summit on the efficacy and effectiveness of spinal manipulative therapy (SMT) for the prevention and treatment of non-musculoskeletal disorders.2 Further, they concluded that “some statements generated from the summit event have extrapolated beyond the data” and that these “have the potential to misrepresent the literature.”1 We find their article to be misleading the readers of the Journal of Manipulative and Physiological Therapeutics. Goertz et al. —A Missed Opportunity
I read with interest the letters to the editor in response to the Goertz et al. literature review.1 I was struck by the content in the letters that provide a critical review of the Summit article,2 which was published in another journal, thereby limiting an academic debate as expected among scholars. Goertz et al —In Support of Scientific Dialogue: A Note From the Editor
This letter aims to clarify processes regarding publication of an article by Goertz, Hurwitz, Murphy, and Coulter in the Journal of Manipulative and Physiological Therapeutics (JMPT).1 In general, JMPT discourages overlapping publications.2 However, as policies from JMPT and the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE) have stated, there are situations when this may be allowed,3,4 such as when coworkers “disagree on the analysis and interpretation of their study.”3 (Source: Journal of Manipulative and Physiological Therapeutics)
