Narrative Review of Clinical Impact of Head-Hip Offset Following Adult Spinal Deformity Surgery
J Korean Neurosurg Soc. 2023 Sep 27. doi: 10.3340/jkns.2023.0168. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTIn adult spinal deformity (ASD) surgery, mechanical failure (MF) has been a significant concern for spine surgeons as well as patients. Despite earnest endeavors to prevent MF, the absence of a definitive consensus persists, owing to the intricate interplay of multifarious factors associated with this complication. Previous approaches centered around global spinal alignment have yielded limited success in entirely forestalling MF. These methodologies, albeit valuable, exhibited limitations by neglecting to encompass global balan...

Importance of Sacrotuberous Ligament in Transgluteal Approach for Sciatic Nerve Entrapment in the Greater Sciatic Notch (Piriformis Syndrome)
CONCLUSION: Sciatic nerve decompression is effective in pain relief in chronic sciatica due to sciatic nerve entrapment at the greater sciatic notch. Its effect was further enhanced by circumferential dissection of the sciatic nerve based on the compartment formed by the piriformis muscle and the sacrotuberous ligament in the greater sciatic notch.PMID:37752819 | DOI:10.3340/jkns.2023.0166 (Source: Journal of Korean Neurosurgical Society)

Monocyte Count and Systemic Immune-Inflammation Index Score as Predictors of Delayed Cerebral Ischemia after Aneurysmal Subarachnoid Hemorrhage
CONCLUSION: Monocyte count at admission and systemic inflammatory index score 3-4 days after rupture are independent predictors of clinical deterioration caused by DCI after aSAH. Peripheral monocytosis may be the primer for the innate immune reaction, and the systemic inflammatory index score at days 3-4 can promptly represent the propagated systemic immune reaction toward DCI.PMID:37734388 | DOI:10.3340/jkns.2023.0182 (Source: Journal of Korean Neurosurgical Society)

Risk Factor Analysis of Cryopreserved Autologous Bone Flap Resorption in Adult Patients Undergoing Cranioplasty with Volumetry Measurement Using Conventional Statistics and Machine-Learning Technique
CONCLUSION: From the present study, BFR in patients who underwent CP with autologous bone flap might be inevitable. However, the degree of BFR may differ from one to another. Therefore, considering artificial bone flaps as implants for patients with large DC could be reasonable. Still, the risk factors for BFR are not clearly understood. Therefore, chronological analysis and pathophysiologic studies are needed.PMID:37709548 | DOI:10.3340/jkns.2023.0143 (Source: Journal of Korean Neurosurgical Society)

The Effect of Preoperative Three Dimensional Modeling and Simulation on Outcome of Intracranial Aneursym Surgery
CONCLUSION: This study is the first prospective study of the utility of 3D aneurysm models. We show that 3D models are useful in surgery preparation. In the near future, these models will be used widely to educate trainees and pre-plan surgical options for senior surgeons.PMID:37709549 | DOI:10.3340/jkns.2023.0035 (Source: Journal of Korean Neurosurgical Society)

Pregabalin versus Gabapentin Efficacy in the Management of Neuropathic Pain Associated with Failed Back Surgery Syndrome
CONCLUSION: Both Pregabalin and Gabapentin effectively and safely relieve neuropathic pain associated with FBSS; Pregabalin was significantly more effective irrespective of the patients' gender.PMID:37709550 | DOI:10.3340/jkns.2022.0225 (Source: Journal of Korean Neurosurgical Society)
