Effect of Mixture of Recombinant Human Bone Morphogenic Protein-2 and demineralized Bone Matrix in Lateral Lumbar Interbody Fusion
CONCLUSION: Usage of rhBMP-2 in LLIF surgery leads to early and increased final fusion rates, which can result in faster pain relief and return to daily activities for patients. The benefits of using rhBMP-2 were not significantly different between the groups that received 1mg/5cc and 2mg/5cc of rhBMP-2. Therefore, it is recommended to use 1mg of rhBMP-2 with 5cc of DBM, taking both economic and clinical aspects into consideration.PMID:37850225 | DOI:10.3340/jkns.2023.0136 (Source: Journal of Korean Neurosurgical Society)

Choroid Plexus Hyperplasia : Report of Two Cases with Unique Radiologic Findings
J Korean Neurosurg Soc. 2023 Oct 18. doi: 10.3340/jkns.2023.0126. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTChoroid plexus hyperplasia (CPH), also known as diffuse villous hyperplasia of choroid plexus, is a rare condition characterized by excessive production of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF), resulting in hydrocephalus. Diagnosing CPH can be challenging due to the absence of clear imaging criteria for choroid plexus hypertrophy and the inability to assess CSF production non-invasively. As a result, many CPH patients are initially treated with a ventriculoperitoneal (VP) shunt, but subsequently require additional surgical intervention due...

The Unique Relationship between Neuro-Critical Care and Critical Illness-Related Corticosteroid Insufficiency : Implications for Neurosurgeons in Neuro-Critical Care
J Korean Neurosurg Soc. 2023 Jun 12. doi: 10.3340/jkns.2023.0061. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe brain houses vital hormonal regulatory structures such as the hypothalamus and pituitary gland, which may confer unique susceptibilities to critical illness-related corticosteroid insufficiency (CIRCI) in patients with neurological disorders. In addition, the frequent use of steroids for therapeutic purposes in various neurological conditions may lead to the development of steroid insufficiency. This abstract aims to highlight the significance of understanding these relationships in the context of patient care and management...

Real-World Impact of Modern Reperfusion Therapy for Acute Ischemic Stroke : A Nationwide Population-Based Data Study in Korea
CONCLUSION: In Korea, the mortality rate decreased as the rate of modern reperfusion therapy increased in patients with acute ischemic stroke. Overall, technical and scientific advances in reperfusion therapy have improved the outcome of patients with acute ischemic stroke in Korea.PMID:37799025 | DOI:10.3340/jkns.2023.0133 (Source: Journal of Korean Neurosurgical Society)

Changes in Disc Height as a Prognostic Factor in Patients Undergoing Microscopic Discectomy
CONCLUSION: In patients who underwent microdiscectomy, the DH ratios at 1, 6, and 12 months after surgery were prognostic factors for back pain scores at 12 months after surgery. Aggressive discectomy is recommended for lower postoperative DH ratios and VAS scores, leading to improved patient satisfaction.PMID:37799026 | DOI:10.3340/jkns.2023.0110 (Source: Journal of Korean Neurosurgical Society)
