Striving to meet targets for ideal treatment of acute myocardial infarction in Brazil: Data from the Midwest region
ConclusionTreatment of STEMI through the public health system in a capital city in Midwestern Brazil falls short of the recommended guidelines due to failure in the initial links of the chain of care. This potentially reversible failure has an important impact on patient outcomes and on health care burden. (Source: Journal of Interventional Cardiology)

Radial versus femoral approach for same ‐day inter‐facility transfer for percutaneous coronary intervention
ConclusionsTransradial access for inter‐facility transfer for PCI after diagnostic angiogram appears safe and feasible, without increasing the risk for ischemic hand complications. Transradial access was associated with fewer bleeding and vascular access‐site complications, and with a higher likelihood for a same‐day discharge home in outpatients. Long ‐term outcomes post chronic total occlusion intervention—implications of completeness of revascularization
ConclusionsSuccessful CTO PCI results in a better long term event free survival but the difference between the groups is more if analyzed with respect to completeness of revascularization rather than CTO success/failure alone. (Source: Journal of Interventional Cardiology)

Von Willebrand factor revisited
Degenerative aortic valve stenosis is the most common valvular heart disease seen in developed countries. Since the implementation of transcatheter aortic valve replacement, there has been a surge of efforts to improve procedural technique as well as reduce mortality. Until recently, the mainstay method of assessment of valve implantation as well as paravalvular regurgitation has relied heavily on imaging techniques including transesophageal echocardiography and aortic root angiography. There has been a lot of scientific inquiry to identify biomarkers in the management of patients with aortic stenosis. von Willebrand facto...

Outcomes after drug ‐coated balloon treatment for patients with calcified coronary lesions
ConclusionCalcified coronary lesions might dilute the effect of DCB. However, clinical outcomes in the calcified group were similar to those in the non‐calcified group. (Source: Journal of Interventional Cardiology)

Comparison of drug eluting balloon angioplasty to infrapopliteal artery critical lesions with or without additional pedal artery angioplasty in patients with diabetes mellitus and critical limb ischemia
ConclusionOur study shows that additional BTA angioplasty to BTK intervention may improve the primary patency rate and have higher event free rate, which slightly missed the margin of statistically significance. RBC decreased significantly more in BTA group compared to BTK group, which reflected that the outcome of intervention is better with additional BTA angioplasty. Cholesterol embolization syndrome: An under ‐recognized entity in cardiovascular interventions
This report is a comprehensive review of the reported cases of CES found in our literature search. We discuss the risk factors, clinical manifestations, management, and prognosis of CES. The major predisposing factors for CES include older age, male sex, atherosclerotic cardiovascular risk factors, anticoagulation, and femoral access route. The composite incidence of atheroembolic renal disease was 92% and mortality 63%. Our review highlights the importance to recognize this disease entity for the cardiologist and nephrologist. Effects of endovascular cooling on infarct size in ST ‐segment elevation myocardial infarction: A patient‐level pooled analysis from randomized trials
ConclusionsThe present study, drawn from a patient‐level pooled analysis of six randomized trials of endovascular cooling during primary PCI in STEMI, showed a significant reduction in infarct size in patients with anterior STEMI who were cooled to <35°C at the time of reperfusion. The results support the need for trials in patients with anterior STEMI using more powerful cooling devices to optimize the delivery of hypothermia prior to reperfusion. 9 ‐month results of polymer‐free sirolimus eluting stents in young patients compared to a septuagenarian and octogenarian all‐comer population
ConclusionsIn octogenarians treated with PF‐SES, the rates for MACE, overall mortality, and bleeding are higher as compared to the younger age groups. However, the rates for TLR and ST were not significantly different across the investigated age groups. PF‐SES are safe and effective in octogenarians. (Source: Journal of Interventional Cardiology)
