Pacing-induced cardiomyopathy in patients with preserved ejection fraction undergoing permanent cardiac pacemaker placement
ConclusionRV pacing increased the risk of PICM in patients with preserved EF. Reduced GLS and prolonged pQRSd could help identify individuals at high risk of PICM even with preserved EF. (Source: Journal of Interventional Cardiac Electrophysiology)

Feasibility and efficacy of a novel size adjustable cryoballoon for ablation of atrial fibrillation
AbstractThe aim of the present case series was to characterize the feasibility of a novel size adjustable cryoballoon system (PolarX Fit, Boston Scientific, Marlborough, MA, USA). This cryoballoon catheter can be inflated to two different diameters (28 mm and 31 mm) within the same procedure allowing vein adapted PVI. In summary, the novel size adjustable cryoballoon shows similar characteristics as the established versions. The intraprocedural flexibility of balloon size led to employment of the larger variant in the majority of freeze applications. Of note, in all but one procedure, both sizes were employed to ensure opt...

Persistence of left atrial thrombus in patients with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy and atrial fibrillation
ConclusionsAmong patients with AF with LA thrombus identified by TEE, those with HCM appear to have a higher risk of LA thrombus persistence than non-HCM patients despite anticoagulation. (Source: Journal of Interventional Cardiac Electrophysiology)

Accuracy of symptoms and pulse checking for detecting atrial fibrillation following catheter ablation
ConclusionsOur data indicate that a strategy of pulse checks and symptom assessment is insufficient to identify all episodes of AF in many patients following catheter ablation. (Source: Journal of Interventional Cardiac Electrophysiology)

High-resolution mapping of the circuit of typical atrioventricular nodal reentrant tachycardia
ConclusionsTypical AVNRT uses a circuit confined within the pyramid of Koch from the AV node to the septal isthmus, involving the myocardial walls of the pyramidal space. (Source: Journal of Interventional Cardiac Electrophysiology)

Influence of the irrigation flow pattern and catheter tip design on the lesion formation: an ex vivo experimental model
ConclusionThe lesion formation and lesion surface characteristics differed among the different irrigation tip designs. An auto-regulated irrigation system did not affect the lesion creation or surface lesion characteristics. Care should be given to the inter-product differences in the lesion characteristics during RF catheter ablation, partly due to the irrigation flow control and tip design.
