Bioresorbable Vascular Scaffold technology, the rise and fall in clinical practice
Publication date: Available online 1 May 2018 Source:Journal of Indian College of Cardiology Author(s): Wael Elabbassi In 1977, interventional treatment of coronary artery disease was heralded by Andreas Gruntzig who started balloon angioplasty. Then in 1996 Schömig et al 3 introduced dual anti-platelet therapy instead of anticoagulant therapy. In 2001 Surrey et al 4 published first report on 45 patients who had negligible neo-intinal hyperplasia, one year after implanting Sirolimus eluting Bx VELOCITY stents. In 2006, Ormiston J et al reported on the first in man implantation at mid LAD position 13 . In 2008 the ABBSO...

A rare case of congenital rubella syndrome
Conclusion We present a case report of congenital rubella syndrome (CRS); though uncommon nowadays, it is still present in India. The main characteristics of our case report were congenital cataract, severe post ductal coarctation of aorta with patent ductus arteriosus and sensory neural hearing impairment. This case is reported to highlight the importance of vaccination by which rubella infection can be eradicated. (Source: Journal of Indian College of Cardiology)

An unusual presentation of Iatrogenic Cushing's syndrome
Publication date: March 2018 Source:Journal of Indian College of Cardiology, Volume 8, Issue 1 Author(s): Uday Kiran Anne, Praveen Nagula, Praneeth Polamuri, Anuj Kapadiya, Vijaya Lakshmi Nuthakki, Kiranmayi K. Anjani Cushing's syndrome (CS) constitutes a constellation of clinical features that result from chronic exposure to excess glucocorticoids of any etiology. Endogenous excess of glucocorticoids secondary to pituitary or adrenal tumors is rare, while the exogenous use of glucocorticoids leading to the CS is common. The latter is termed as Iatrogenic Cushing's syndrome (ICS). The patients with ICS usually pres...

Correlation between pulmonary hypertension severity and left ventricular diastolic function indices in hypertensive patients
Conclusion Hypertensive patients with diastolic dysfunction had a higher systolic pulmonary artery pressure and a higher incidence of severe pulmonary hypertension. Systolic pulmonary artery pressure was significantly correlated with of LV diastolic dysfunction indices. (Source: Journal of Indian College of Cardiology)

Percutaneous coronary rotational atherectomy: does it make sense in 2018?
Publication date: Available online 26 February 2018 Source:Journal of Indian College of Cardiology Author(s): Debabrata Dash Percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) for obstructive coronary artery disease has evolved significantly since Andreas Gruentzig performed first PCI using a plain balloon catheter in Zurich in 1977. Heavily calcified coronary lesions (HCCL) pose great technical challenges for the interventionists and are associated with a high frequency of restenosis and target lesion revascularization. Sometimes HCCL can not be crossed with even the smallest available low profile balloons. They also may resist ...

Correlation of plasma 25-Hydroxy-Vitamin D level with angiographic severity in coronary artery disease
Conclusions Vitamin D deficiency is a relatively common disorder. Risk of cardiovascular disease in people with vitamin D deficiency is almost 1.7 times of those with normal levels of vitamin D. To confirm the casual relationship between vitamin D and cardiovascular disease, larger studies are suggested. (Source: Journal of Indian College of Cardiology)

Correlation of epicardial adipose tissue thickness with severity of coronary atherosclerosis by SYNTAX score, carotid intima-media thickness and metabolic syndrome
Conclusions EAT and CIMT can predict CAD burden in a robust way. EAT may emerge as an exquisite bedside tool to predict atherosclerotic burden and guide to implement preventive therapy for cardiovascular disease. (Source: Journal of Indian College of Cardiology)

Prevalence and clinical characteristics of patients with myocardial bridging in a population from North Kerala
Conclusion The study showed a higher incidence of myocardial bridging then that of previous Indian studies. A significant proportion of patients presented with angina and acute coronary syndrome despite having no coronary artery disease. The incidence was higher in patients with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy whereas it was similar to that of general population in patients with rheumatic heart disease.
