Endothelial dysfunction is present in children with idiopathic dilated cardiomyopathy and remains dysfunctional after cardiac improvement
ConclusionChildren with IDCM and HF had endothelial dysfunction. The endothelium remained dysfunctional even after improvement in cardiac function. (Source: Journal of Indian College of Cardiology)

Prevalence and clinical characteristics of patients with myocardial bridging in a population from North Kerala
ConclusionThe study showed a higher incidence of myocardial bridging then that of previous Indian studies. A significant proportion of patients presented with angina and acute coronary syndrome despite having no coronary artery disease. The incidence was higher in patients with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy whereas it was similar to that of general population in patients with rheumatic heart disease. Correlation between pulmonary hypertension severity and left ventricular diastolic function indices in hypertensive patients
ConclusionHypertensive patients with diastolic dysfunction had a higher systolic pulmonary artery pressure and a higher incidence of severe pulmonary hypertension. Systolic pulmonary artery pressure was significantly correlated with of LV diastolic dysfunction indices. (Source: Journal of Indian College of Cardiology)

Correlation of epicardial adipose tissue thickness with severity of coronary atherosclerosis by SYNTAX score, carotid intima-media thickness and metabolic syndrome
ConclusionsEAT and CIMT can predict CAD burden in a robust way. EAT may emerge as an exquisite bedside tool to predict atherosclerotic burden and guide to implement preventive therapy for cardiovascular disease. (Source: Journal of Indian College of Cardiology)

Percutaneous coronary rotational atherectomy: Does it make sense in 2018?
Publication date: June 2018Source: Journal of Indian College of Cardiology, Volume 8, Issue 2Author(s): Debabrata DashAbstractPercutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) for obstructive coronary artery disease has traveled long journey since Andreas Gruentzig performed first PCI using a plain balloon catheter in Zurich in 1977. Heavily calcified coronary lesions(HCCL) constitute significant technical challenges for the interventionists and are associated with a high frequency of restenosis and target lesion revascularization. Sometimeseven with the smallest available low profile balloons fail to cross HCCL. They also may resi...

A rare case of congenital rubella syndrome
ConclusionWe present a case report of congenital rubella syndrome (CRS); though uncommon nowadays, it is still present in India. The main characteristics of our case report were congenital cataract, severe post ductal coarctation of aorta with patent ductus arteriosus and bilateral sensory neural hearing impairment. This case is reported to highlight the importance of vaccination by which rubella infection can be eradicated. (Source: Journal of Indian College of Cardiology)

Single coronary ostium in right aortic sinus without other major cardiovascular abnormalities presenting as angina pectoris in an adult- a rare anatomical variant
We report a 48 yr old diabetic female who presented with chest pain for 6 months. Her ECG, 2D Echo and TMT were normal. Coronary angiogram was done in view of persistent symptoms and diabetes which showed single coronary ostium in the right aortic sinus with anomalous origin of LMCA from proximal superdominant RCA. Epicardial coronaries were normal. CT coronary angiogram was done to evaluate the course of anomalous LMCA, which showed prepulmonic course excluding any extrinsic compression. What makes this case unusual is that; single coronary ostium without other major cardiovascular abnormalities in itself is a rare e...

Prevalence and short-term prognosis of heart failure: An in hospital prevalence study
Conclusion Heart failure occurs at a younger age in Indians compared to the western countries. The most common etiology is DCM followed by VHD. Since this is a retrospective analysis and has its own limitations, community based heart failure study taking a clue from the present study can be done to achieve invaluable data. Kounis syndrome manifesting as left main coronary aneurysm with late coronary stent thrombosis
Publication date: Available online 1 May 2018 Source:Journal of Indian College of Cardiology Author(s): Vishwanath Hesarur, Sameer Ambar, Suresh Patted, Sanjay Porwal, Prasad M R, Anand Kumar M Kounis syndrome (KS) is defined as the occurrence of an acute coronary syndrome (ACS) concomitantly with hypersensitivity reactions triggered by an allergenic event. Patients with Drug Eluting Stents (DES) implantation are prone to hypersensitivity reactions from five potential antigens namely, metal stent, polymer coating, eluted drug and antiplatelets (aspirin, clopidogrel). Coronary aneurysms are seen in 1.25-3.9% of pati...
