Correlation between pulmonary hypertension severity and left ventricular diastolic function indices in hypertensive patients
ConclusionHypertensive patients with diastolic dysfunction had a higher systolic pulmonary artery pressure and a higher incidence of severe pulmonary hypertension. Systolic pulmonary artery pressure was significantly correlated with of LV diastolic dysfunction indices. (Source: Journal of Indian College of Cardiology)

Correlation of epicardial adipose tissue thickness with severity of coronary atherosclerosis by SYNTAX score, carotid intima-media thickness and metabolic syndrome
ConclusionsEAT and CIMT can predict CAD burden in a robust way. EAT may emerge as an exquisite bedside tool to predict atherosclerotic burden and guide to implement preventive therapy for cardiovascular disease. (Source: Journal of Indian College of Cardiology)

Single coronary ostium in right aortic sinus without other major cardiovascular abnormalities presenting as angina pectoris in an adult- a rare anatomical variant
We report a 48 yr old diabetic female who presented with chest pain for 6 months. Her ECG, 2D Echo and TMT were normal. Coronary angiogram was done in view of persistent symptoms and diabetes which showed single coronary ostium in the right aortic sinus with anomalous origin of LMCA from proximal superdominant RCA. Epicardial coronaries were normal. CT coronary angiogram was done to evaluate the course of anomalous LMCA, which showed prepulmonic course excluding any extrinsic compression. What makes this case unusual is that; single coronary ostium without other major cardiovascular abnormalities in itself is a rare e...

Association of Gene Polymorphisms in CYP2C19, platelet reactivity, and the SYNTAX score on 1-year clinical outcomes in patients undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention
ConclusionHPR is associated with increased rates of ischemic event only in patients with high SS suggesting a possible setting in which platelet function testing could be implemented to optimise antiplatelet therapy. CYP2C19*2was the only genetic variant significantly associated HPR but not associated with the risk of MACE. (Source: Journal of Indian College of Cardiology)

Prevalence of coronary artery disease and its relationship with various cardiovascular risk factors: Analysis of south Indian patients
ConclusionPrevalence of CAD was 5.9% in our study. We observed no significant differences between CAD and non-CAD individuals for various cardiovascular risk factors, lifestyle related factors, and majority of biochemical parameters. (Source: Journal of Indian College of Cardiology)

Analyses of HSP90α Gene Polymorphism in Arrhythmogenic Right Ventricular Cardiomyopathy/Dysplasia
ConclusionThese findings suggest that possible role ofHSP90α polymorphism in the etiology of ARVC/D. The ‘G’ allele of HSP90α polymorphism damages the 3-D native conformations, which is required for the interaction between client proteins such as desmosomes, ryanodine receptor-2 and sodium channel leading to mislocalization of these proteins. Furthermore, loss of inhibitory interaction between HSP90α protein and Apaf-1 trigger apoptosis. (Source: Journal of Indian College of Cardiology)

An unusual presentation of asymptomatic Type 2 Brugada pattern
We present the case of a 56 year old male whom was brought following a witnessed out of hospital cardiac arrest. His background included a drug-induced type 1 Brugada pattern following a flecanide challenge. He has been asymptomatic until this event. In the absence of other causes for a cardiac arrest, he received an implantable cardiac defibrillator. This case highlights an uncommon presentation of a patient with a Drug Induced Type 1 Brugada pattern. These situations pose challenges to clinicians in surveillance of patients, and highlights the need for further research into predictive markers for sudden cardiac death...

Pacemaker implantation in persistent left superior venacava with absent right superior venacava: Lessons learnt
Publication date: March 2018Source: Journal of Indian College of Cardiology, Volume 8, Issue 1Author(s): Shreetal Rajan Nair, C.G. SajeevAbstractA 55 year old male presented to us with history of recurrent episodes of syncope following which he was detected to have sick sinus syndrome and was planned for a permanent pacemaker implantation. During the procedure he was incidentally detected to have a persistent left superior venacava with absent right superior venacava as probably his initial echocardiogram was overlooked and the procedure was replanned to a later date. A 64 slice MDCT scan was done to delineate the ven...

An unusual presentation of Iatrogenic Cushing's syndrome
Publication date: March 2018Source: Journal of Indian College of Cardiology, Volume 8, Issue 1Author(s): Uday Kiran Anne, Praveen Nagula, Praneeth Polamuri, Anuj Kapadiya, Vijaya Lakshmi Nuthakki, Kiranmayi K. AnjaniAbstractCushing's syndrome (CS) constitutes a constellation of clinical features that result from chronic exposure to excess glucocorticoids of any etiology. Endogenous excess of glucocorticoids secondary to pituitary or adrenal tumors is rare, while the exogenous use of glucocorticoids leading to the CS is common. The latter is termed as Iatrogenic Cushing's syndrome (ICS). The patients with ICS usually presen...

Heart failure specialist nurse “need of time” for developing countries: An old concept but a newer initiative—A review article
Publication date: March 2018Source: Journal of Indian College of Cardiology, Volume 8, Issue 1Author(s): UrvashiAbstractHeart failure is the end result of many cardiac problems in which heart is unable to pump sufficient blood to meet the requirement of the body. The concept of heart failure nurse specialist is a decade old in developed countries but in developing nations the need of same can be felt by health care professionals when dealing with the burden of the disease alone. The heart failure nurse specialized clinics has almost every time demonstrated the valuable results in terms of event free survival, reduction in ...
