Efficiency and Safety of Yueju Antidepressant for Primary Depression Patients: A Meta-analysis of Randomized Controlled Trials
ConclusionThe present review suggests that Yueju antidepressant, or Yueju combined with conventional antidepressants, is significantly superior in clinical efficiency, reduction of HAMD scores from the fourth week, amelioration of SCL-90 scores, and decrease of adverse events compared to conventional antidepressants alone. More precisely designed, randomized controlled trials with larger samples are required before Yueju antidepressant can be recommended to treat patients with primary depression.Graphical abstract (Source: Journal of Herbal Medicine)

A tale of two cinnamons: a comparative review of the clinical evidence of Cinnamomum verum and C. cassia as diabetes interventions
ConclusionWhile evidence supports the therapeutic benefit ofC. cassia, interchangeability of C. cassia and C. verum remains inconclusive. Further research is warranted to address the effectiveness and safety of these cinnamon species. Given the potential hepatotoxicity of C. cassia, RCTs that include liver function tests are required. Robust RCTs on C. verum are recommended to establish if its efficacy can match its safety profile. (Source: Journal of Herbal Medicine)

Significant decrease in the viability and tumor stem cell marker expression in tumor cell lines treated with curcumin
In this study we investigated the effect of curcumin on cancer cell viability, proliferation and suppression of CSCs markers (CD44, CD133, ALDH1) in vitro. Additionally, as limitations for curcumin application arise from its poor bioavailability, the stability of curcumin in different media conditions was investigated. The effect of curcumin on three cancer cell lines (A549, HCT116, 183E95) was investigated with MTT-assay, Flowcytometry, Immunofluorescence and western blotting. Stability of curcumin (diferuloylmethane) and curcuminoids (bisdemetoxycurcumin; desmetoxycurcumin) was determined by HPLC technique in A549 cells i...
