Health-Related Quality of Life for Patients with Post-Acute COVID-19 Syndrome: Identification of Symptom Clusters and Predictors of Long-Term Outcomes
ConclusionsPatients with PASC have distinct HRQL symptom profiles which were able to differentiate across COVID-19 severity and symptoms. Improvement over 12  months differed by profile. These profiles may be used to better understand the mechanisms behind PASC. Future research should evaluate their ability to guide treatment decisions to improve HRQL. Building Climate Change into Medical Education: A Society of General Internal Medicine Position Statement
AbstractBuilding expertise in climate and planetary health among healthcare professionals cannot come with greater urgency as the threats from climate change become increasingly apparent. Current and future healthcare professionals —particularly internists—will increasingly need to understand the interconnectedness of natural systems and human health to better serve their patients longitudinally. Despite this, few national medical societies and accreditation bodies espouse frameworks for climate change and planetary health –related education at the undergraduate (UME), graduate (GME), and continuing (CME) medical edu...

A Systematic Review of the Single-Item Burnout Question: Its Reliability Depends on Your Purpose
DiscussionThe SIBOQ ’s usually adequate explanatory abilities allow “hot-spotting” to identify subgroups with high or low burnout within a single, homogenous survey fielding. However, the predictive ability of the SIBOQ indicates insufficient reliability in comparing local results to external benchmarks. (Source: Journal of General Internal Medicine)

Impact of Evidence-Based Quality Improvement on Tailoring VA ’s Patient-Centered Medical Home Model to Women Veterans’ Needs
ConclusionsEBQI effectiveness varied, with WH-PACTs experiencing broader benefits and PC-PACTs improving basic WH care readiness. Lower confidence delivering WH care by PC-PACT members warrants further study.Trial RegistrationThe data in this paper represent results from a cluster randomized controlled trial registered in ClinicalTrials.gov (NCT02039856). Racial and Ethnic Disparities in Opioid Prescribing on Hospital Discharge Among Older Adults: A National Retrospective Cohort Study
Conclusions and RelevanceBlack older adults were less likely to fill a new opioid prescription after hospital discharge when compared to White older adults and received lower total MMEs. The factors contributing to these differential prescribing patterns should be investigated further. (Source: Journal of General Internal Medicine)

Pregnancy Rates Among Women Treated with Medication for Opioid Use Disorder
ConclusionsThe association between MOUD and odds of conception among birthing people varied by type of MOUD, with extended-release naltrexone associated with higher odds of conceiving compared to no treatment. Clinical studies are urgently needed to investigate these findings further. (Source: Journal of General Internal Medicine)

Post-hospitalization Care Transition Strategies for Patients with Substance Use Disorders: A Narrative Review and Taxonomy
AbstractHospitalizations represent important opportunities to engage individuals with substance use disorders (SUD) in treatment. For those who engage with SUD treatment in the hospital setting, tailored supports during post-discharge transitions to longitudinal care settings may improve care linkages, retention, and treatment outcomes. We updated a recent systematic review search on post-hospitalization SUD care transitions through a structured review of published literature from January 2020 through June 2023. We then added novel sources including a gray literature search and key informant interviews to develop a taxonom...
