Hepatic Infarction From Portal Vein Thrombosis ‐ A Fatal Consequence of Acute Pancreatitis
Abstract Acute pancreatitis is potentially fatal and in its severe form is often associated with pancreatic necrosis and higher mortality. The inflammatory response causes peripancreatic and pancreatic necrosis, and in severe cases results in multiple organ damage through vascular insult either in form of arterial spasm, arterial thrombosis or splanchnic thrombosis [1]. Optimal Duration of Fasting Period after Endoscopic Submucosal Dissection for Gastric Epithelial Neoplasia: A Prospective Evaluation of Short versus Long Fasting Period
ConclusionsThe short fasting period does not cause discomfort related to ESD nor does it influence post ESD bleeding. Moreover, the short fasting protocol results in shorter hospital stays and greater patient satisfaction. (KCT0001021). Copyright © 2017 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd. (Source: Journal of Digestive Diseases)

Factor analysis of recurrent biliary events in long ‐term follow up of gallstone pancreatitis
ConclusionsIn the long‐term follow up of GSP, cholecystectomy can offer better protection against recurrent biliary events than EST only. The presence of CBD stones at time of definitive therapy might be a risk factor for recurrent biliary events. (Source: Journal of Digestive Diseases)

Safety and efficacy of transcatheter arterial chemoembolization with embospheres in treatment of hepatocellular carcinoma
ConclusionsEmbo‐TACE resulted in a significant improvement in TTP and OS for patients with unresectable HCC, compared with cTACE. Furthermore, Embo‐TACE was better tolerated. Additional therapy and local responses one month after the first TACE were independent prognostic factors for OS. (Source: Journal of Digestive Diseases)

Combination of growth pattern and tumor regression identifies a high risk group in neoadjuvant treated rectal cancer patients
ConclusionLoss of E‐cadherin protein expression in the pretherapeutic biopsy of rectal cancer is associated with fewer metastases and improved survival. Furthermore the growth pattern in the post‐RCT resection specimen has a prognostic value for survival. A combination of growth pattern and tumor regression score (RegPat‐Score) showed the highest discriminatory power to identify high‐risk patients. Copyright © 2017 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd. Probiotics as an adjuvant treatment in Helicobacter pylori eradication therapy
Abstract Over 80% population with Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) infection is asymptomatic. H. pylori was considered as a primary reason for various natural gastric physiopathology. Increased antibiotic resistance and less medication compliance lead to the failure of antibiotic eradication therapy. Probiotics have been applied as a supplementary treatment in H. pylori eradication therapy in recent years. They have direct and indirect inhibitory effects on H. pylori in both animal models and clinical trials. Because of the improvement in eradication rates and therapy‐related side effects, probiotics have been considered ...
