C ‐ reactive protein as a Predictor of Low Trough Infliximab Concentrations in Patients who Lose Response to Infliximab
ConclusionsCRP levels > 12 mg/L exhibit a high specificity for identifying patients with IFX concentration < 3ug/mL. CRP may be a cost‐effective alternative to identify patients with low concentrations of IFX at the time of, or at risk of, loss of response. Copyright © 2017 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd. Pharmacotherapy of nonalcoholic steatohepatitis: reflections on the existing evidence
Abstract Pharmacotherapy for nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) has not been approved so far by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Over the past decade, a large number of clinical studies have explored the safety and efficacy of different drugs in the treatment of nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH). Diet pills, antioxidants, insulin sensitizers, lipid‐lowering agents, anti‐inflammatory cytokines, cytoprotective agents, and intestinal probiotics are some of the drugs that have been investigated by different groups. Based on the evidence from randomized clinical trials (RCTs), a number of academic groups h...

Functional Dyspepsia and Duodenal Eosinophilia: A New Disease Model
Abstract Functional dyspepsia (FD) is a highly prevalent disorder that affects more than 10% of the population. In the past decade, the conceptual underpinning of FD has begun to change, and new data are unraveling the underlying pathophysiological mechanisms of this disorder with a focus on the duodenum. The Rome IV criteria were published in 2016, and notably suggests that gastroesophageal reflux disease and irritable bowel syndrome may all be part of the same disease spectrum as FD. Helicobacter pylori explains a minority of FD cases and in Rome IV is considered a separate entity. Duodenal inflammation is likely to be a...

Genetic association and phenotypic correlation of TLR4 but not NOD2 variants with Tunisian inflammatory bowel disease
CONCLUSIONIn our study, TLR4‐Thr399Ile variant is strongly associated with the susceptibility to IBD whereas, TLR4‐Asp299Gly seem to play a role in the clinical expression of UC. The rarity and non association of the NOD2 mutations with IBD in our study may reveal a genetic characteristic of the disease in our region. (Source: Journal of Digestive Diseases)

Role of esophagogastroduodenoscopy in detecting distal duodenal lesions: a single ‐center pilot study in South China
ConclusionEGD could have important diagnostic value for the distal duodenum. Patients with gastric retention, bloodstain in the stomach, or erosion in the proximal duodenum may benefit from the deep insertion of EGD. Copyright © 2017 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd. (Source: Journal of Digestive Diseases)

Endoscopic sleeve gastroplasty: case report, technique and literature review
Abstract We are reporting the first case of endoscopic sleeve gastroplasty performed in Asia on a patient with obesity and the metabolic syndrome. This is also the first report of endoscopic sleeve gastroplasty with paired Fibroscan examination. The patient made an instant recovery, and showed a remarkable amount of weight loss and improvement in his metabolic profile and liver parameters which was sustained at one year follow‐up. Endoscopic sleeve gastroplasty appears promising as an intervention for obese patients with the metabolic syndrome who are not optimally responding to medical therapy but at the same time do no...
