Challenges of the economic and social impact of diabetes in low and middle ‐income countries
Abstract The economic and social impact of diabetes, as pointed out by Hind A et al1, is putting pressure on health systems and patients from low and middle‐income countries (LMICs). The panorama to solve the demand for services of the population with diabetes in these countries is not encouraging. (Source: Journal of Diabetes)

Longitudinal Study of Short ‐term Corticosteroid Use by Working‐Age Adults with Diabetes Mellitus: Risks and Mitigating Factors
ConclusionsShort‐term oral corticosteroid use is common in adults with diabetes and is associated with an elevated, but low, risk of adverse events. Our findings suggest that preventative medications may mitigate risk. (Source: Journal of Diabetes)

Effect of glycemic control on the Diabetes Complications Severity Index score and development of complications in people with newly diagnosed type 2 diabetes
ConclusionsBaseline glycemic control had no apparent effect on longitudinal changes in DCSI score. Worsening or persistently poor glycemic control was associated with an increased risk of an increase in the DCSI score. (Source: Journal of Diabetes)

Response to “Sleep habits and non‐alcoholic fatty liver disease: risk assessment by adjusting confounders”
Abstract We thank Tomoyuki Kawada for the comments1 in response to our recent article in Journal of Diabetes titled ‘Short sleep duration and longer daytime napping are associated with non‐alcoholic fatty liver disease in Chinese adults’, where we assessed the association between sleep habit and non‐alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD).2 (Source: Journal of Diabetes)

Latent autoimmune diabetes and limbic encephalitis with antibodies against glutamic acid decarboxylase
Abstract Antibodies against glutamic acid decarboxylase (GAD) are a hallmark of type 1 diabetes and its late‐onset variant, latent autoimmune diabetes of the adult (LADA).1 While cerebrovascular disease and dementia are common causes of cognitive dysfunction and neurological deficits in diabetic patients,2,3 rare autoimmune disorders of the central nervous system such as stiff‐person syndrom or limbic encephalits can also occur on the basis of shared GAD autoimmunity.4,5 (Source: Journal of Diabetes)
