Obesity as a risk factor in atrial fibrillation and heart failure
ConclusionsObesity is an independent and modifiable risk factor for AF and HF. In addition, there is an increasing volume of experimental and clinical data that suggests an important role of the epicardial adipose tissue in the pathophysiology of AF. However, several issues, such as the issue of optimal pharmacotherapy and weight reduction strategy in obese patients with HF remains still unanswered, and open for future investigation. Comparison of neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio, platelet to lymphocyte ratio, and C-reactive protein in predicting osteomyelitis in patients with diabetic foot ulcer
ConclusionNLR and PLR could be useful for diagnosing OS but cannot be used for detecting lower grades of DFU. CRP showed higher performance in detecting OS compared to PLR and NLR. (Source: Journal of Diabetes and Metabolic Disorders)

A methodological quality review of citations of randomized controlled trials of diabetes type2 in leading clinical practice guidelines and systematic reviews
ConclusionsPoor methodological reporting and adherence to CONSORT checklist in evaluated RCTs, especially in methodological sections. Improvements needed for reliable and applicable results in guidelines, reviews, and meta-analyses. Inadequate outcome reporting challenges researchers, clinicians, and policymakers, impacting evidence-based decision-making. Urgent improvements in RCT registration necessary. Association between pre-diabetes or diabetes and cognitive impairment in a community-dwelling older population: Bushehr Elderly Health (BEH) program
ConclusionThe Bushehr Elderly Health Program (BEHP) study revealed that individuals affected with cognitive impairment may exhibit higher levels of HbA1c. This suggests a positive correlation between elevated HbA1c and cognitive impairment. (Source: Journal of Diabetes and Metabolic Disorders)

Electrospun skin dressings for diabetic wound treatment: a systematic review
ConclusionThis review confirms the significant benefits of using electrospun skin dressings for skin repair and regeneration. All the inks used were demonstrated to be suitable for dressing manufacturing. Moreover, in vivo findings showed full wound closure in most of the studies, with well-organized dermal and epidermal layers. (Source: Journal of Diabetes and Metabolic Disorders)

Impact of diabetes on healthcare utilization and expenditure among older adults in India
ConclusionThe study highlights the need for diabetes awareness programs and interventions integrated into national health policies. The quantile regression model provides crucial insights into the association between diabetes and OOPE for hospitalization and medicine The increase of OOPE for hospitalisation and medicine due to the presence of diabetes emphasizes the need to address the financial burden faced by people with diabetes, highlighting the urgency of prioritizing measures to improve access to affordable care. Anthropometry and blood biomarkers of diabetes and their possible association with obesity and metabolic syndrome
ConclusionsHere, we found that pre-diabetic and diabetic patients have increased fasting glucose levels while we did not find any difference in insulin levels. Both pre-diabetic and diabetic patients show high serum uric acid, positively associated with a higher prevalence of diabetes and HOMA-IR. Uric acid may hence be an important parameter for early diagnostics. These findings may be used as a basis for future studies that aim to identify the mechanistic details of the association of uric acid with insulin signaling and hence better understanding of the phenomenon associated with diabetes.
