Associations between Outpatient Laboratory Test Age and Healthcare Utilization in Type 2 Diabetes Care
ConclusionFindings from this study indicate that older type 2 diabetes laboratory tests are associated with increases in the total expected count of subsequent inpatient hospitalizations and emergency department visits. Future research should examine the actionability of laboratory test values to determine associations with healthcare outcomes. (Source: Journal of Diabetes and Metabolic Disorders)

Study protocol: glycaemic outcomes in people with type 2 diabetes initiating continuous glucose monitoring: the 2GO-CGM study
This study has been designed to assess the effect of initiating real-time CGM (rtCGM) on glycaemic control in a high-risk population of adults with T2D. Secondary objectives are to assess the cost-effectiveness and safety of rtCGM, and the effects of rtCGM on diet/lifestyle and the burden of diabetic complications, including cardiovascular risk.MethodsThis multicentre randomised controlled trial (RCT) will be conducted at three sites in New Zealand (Waikato, Christchurch and Dunedin). Eighty adults with T2D on insulin with suboptimal glycaemic control (HbA1c  >  8.0% or 64 mmol/mol) will be randomised 1:1 to rtCGM ...

Association of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease with the different types of dietary carbohydrates: a cross-sectional study
ConclusionsThis study showed a positive association between total dietary carbohydrate and NAFLD. In particular, the amount of dietary of carbohydrates (regardless of the type of carbohydrate) may worsen NAFLD. Further longitudinal studies are warranted. Electromechanical therapy in diabetic foot ulcers patients: A systematic review and meta-analysis
ConclusionThis systematic review and meta-analysis revealed electromechanical treatments are significantly viable options for patients with DFUs. Electromechanical therapy can considerably reduce treatment ineffectiveness, accelerate healing, and minimize the time it takes for complete ulcer healing. Hypoglycemia and anxiolysis mediated by levofloxacin treatment in diabetic rats
ConclusionIn conclusion, STZ-NAD administration increased the blood glucose level, anxiety related behavior, decreased the plasma nitrite and increased the MDA level. LVX administration potentiated the diabetogenic effects of STZ-NAD in rats. Daily administration of LVX decreased the blood glucose level of diabetic rats. LVX administration alleviated the STZ induced anxiety in OFT, LDT and EPM test. LVX administration increased the plasma nitrite level and decreased the lipid peroxidation in diabetic rats. MiR-29b modulates DNA methylation in promoter region of miR-130b in mouse model of Diabetic nephropathy
In conclusion, miR-29b expression was found to modulate DNA methylation via DNMTs and regulate methylation of miR-130b. The result of this study provides a future direction to unveil role of miRNA expression in DNA methylation and its consequent effect on other miRNAs in DN. External validation of the UK prospective diabetes study (UKPDS) risk engine in patients with type 2 diabetes identified in the national diabetes program in Iran
ConclusionThis study shows that the ability of the UKPDS Risk Engine to discriminate patients who developed CHD events from those who did not; was moderate and the ability of the risk prediction model to accurately predict the absolute risk of CHD (calibration) was poor and it overestimated the CHD risk. To improve the prediction of CHD in patients with type 2 diabetes, this model should be updated in the Iranian diabetic population. (Source: Journal of Diabetes and Metabolic Disorders)

Signature precursor and mature microRNAs in cervical ripening during gestational diabetes mellitus lead to pre-term labor and other impediments in future
This article focuses on the speculations of oxidative and nitrative stress markers that lead to detrimental effects in GDM. We have also envisaged the role of non-coding miRNA interactions in regulating gene expression for oxidative damage.Graphical AbstractHolistic view of miRNA in GDM.(A) Placenta as a metabolic organ that provides the foetus with nutrients, oxygen and hormones to maintain pregnancy. Human placental lactogen (hPL) is one such hormone that is released into maternal circulation. hPL is known to induce insulin resistance. (B) ß-cell dysfunction leads to reduced glucose sensing and insulin production. Insul...
