High migratory activity of dermal sheath cup cells associated with the clinical efficacy of autologous cell-based therapy for pattern hair loss
Autologous cell-based therapy using dermal sheath cup (DSC) cells was reported as a new treatment for male and female pattern hair loss. However, the mechanisms underlying its action remain unclear. (Source: Journal of Dermatological Science)

Cross-sectional nationwide epidemiologic survey on quality of life and treatment efficacy in Japanese patients with congenital ichthyoses
Congenital ichthyoses sometimes present with severe skin symptoms that significantly affect the patient ’s quality of life (QOL). Symptomatic treatments are the mainstay therapies, and their efficacy is limited and inadequate. (Source: Journal of Dermatological Science)

METTL14-mediated N6-methyladenosine modification of Col17a1/Itg α6/Itgβ4 governs epidermal homeostasis
N6-methyladenosine (m6A) is the most abundant and reversible modification occurring in eukaryotic mRNAs, however, its functions in mammalian epidermal development are still not fully elucidated. (Source: Journal of Dermatological Science)

Dual effect of tacrolimus on mast cell –mediated allergy and inflammation through Mas-related G protein-coupled receptor X2
Topical tacrolimus, although widely used in the treatment of dermatoses, presents with an immediate irritation on initial application resembling a pseudo-allergic reaction. Mas-related G protein-coupled receptor X2 (MRGPRX2) in mast cells (MCs) mediates drug-induced pseudo-allergic reaction and immunoglobulin E (IgE)-independent pruritis in chronic skin diseases. However, the immunosuppression mechanism of tacrolimus on MCs via MRGPRX2 has not been reported. (Source: Journal of Dermatological Science)

Transient receptor potential vanilloid 4 promotes cutaneous wound healing by regulating keratinocytes and fibroblasts migration and collagen production in fibroblasts in a mouse model
Transient receptor potential vanilloid 4 (TRPV4), a cation ion channel, is expressed in different cells, and it regulates the development of different diseases. We recently found a high TRPV4 expression in the wounded skin area. However, the role of TRPV4 in cutaneous wound healing is unknown. (Source: Journal of Dermatological Science)

Management of the human hair follicle microbiome by a synthetic odorant
Human scalp hair follicles (HFs) engage in olfactory receptor (OR)-dependent chemosensation. Activation of olfactory receptor family 2 subfamily AT member 4 (OR2AT4) by the synthetic, sandalwood-like odorant Sandalore ® up-regulated HF antimicrobial peptide expression of dermcidin (DCD), thought to be produced exclusively by sweat and sebaceous glands.
