Examination of Suprahyoid Muscle Resection and Other Factors Affecting Swallowing Function in Patients With Advanced Oral Cancer After Surgical Resection and Reconstruction
The objective of this study was to analyze postoperative swallowing outcomes and factors influencing postoperative swallowing function in patients with advanced oral cancer who underwent primary reconstruction after surgical resection to identify patients at risk of experiencing severe dysphagia after immediate reconstruction of surgical defects, and to determine an ideal approach to provide appropriate perioperative interventions. The swallowing status was evaluated at 4 week postoperatively using the Functional Oral Intake Scale. We also analyzed the effects of patient, tumor, surgical, and other factors on postoperative...

Benign Meningioma With Rare Radiological and Behavioral Features
Conclusions: Both preoperative and intraoperative diagnoses are difficult for this case. Knowledge of this case is crucial for clinicians to be aware of this entity because it can be easily confused with bone tumors. Further research on the relationship between meningioma and bone metabolism is required to investigate the mechanism of osteolysis. (Source: Journal of Craniofacial Surgery)

Whole-Exon Sequencing and Correlation Analysis of a 14-Month-Old Girl With Orofaciodigital Syndrome
Orofaciodigital syndrome type 1 (OFDS1) is a genetic disorder characterized by specific oral, facial, and limb malformations. A 14-month-old girl with congenital cleft palate, lower lip midline cleft, and digital anomalies admitted to our hospital was preliminarily diagnosed with OFDS1. Genetic analysis revealed that she carried a heterozygous variant of OFD1 at locus Xp22.2 on the X chromosome. Herein, we present the specific phenotype and genotype and the treatment modalities for this patient and references for diagnosing and treating OFDS. (Source: Journal of Craniofacial Surgery)

Epidemiological Study of Neonatal Congenital Microtia in Shandong Province, China, 2011–2020
Conclusions: The average incidence of microtia was 76.14±21.93 per 100,000 infants in Shandong Province, China, 2011–2020. The female-to-male incidence ratio was 1.45:1. The authors recommend that women choose to give birth at the age of 25 to 29. They hope that the government will take measures to improve the medical and health conditions in rural areas and improve parenting knowledge in rural areas. This can effectively reduce the prevalence of microtia in infants. (Source: Journal of Craniofacial Surgery)

Nonsurgical Correction of Congenital Ear Deformities: The Relationship Between Age of Presentation and Regression
Conclusions: Regression rates are higher in children older than 3 weeks although not statistically significant. Most regressions were partial and ear molding still significantly corrected most deformities. We suggest that ear molding be offered past 3 weeks of age, with maximum age being dependent on deformity type, as it still leads to high parental satisfaction. Sverzut Nasotracheal Tube Support Device: Ergonomic Management and Airway Safety in Cervicomaxillofacial Surgery
Nasotracheal intubation is the preferred route for general anesthesia maintenance in patients undergoing maxillofacial surgery or dental procedures. However, compression of the tracheal tube may cause superficial necrosis of the nasal wing and deformation of the external nose. Thus, proper fixation of the tracheal tube during nasotracheal intubation is important for the patient’s safety as well as that of the medical staff. Recently, a nasotracheal tube support device has been developed; thus, in this study, the aim was to present and describe the Sverzut nasotracheal tube support device and discuss the advantages of its...

Complexity of Online Facial Feminization Surgery Material Exceeds Patient Health Literacy
This study evaluates the readability of online FFS resources. An Internet search of the top 100 Web sites was conducted using the keywords “facial feminization surgery.” Web sites were analyzed for relevant patient information articles on FFS and categorized into health care and nonhealth care groups. Readability examinations were performed for written text using the Automated Readability Index, Coleman-Liau Index, Flesch-Kincaid Grade Level, Gunning Fog Index, and Simple Measure of Gobbledygook Index. Statistical analysis was performed using 2-tailed z tests, with statistical significance set at P≤0.05. A total of 1...

Total Resection of Cerebellopontine Angle Meningioma via Presigmoid Transmastoid Approach: An Otologist’s Perspective
Conclusions: Presigmoid transmastoid approach in otomicrosurgery is suitable for CPAMs invading the mastoid. It is suggested that neurosurgeons and ear surgeons should comprehensively analyze the type and extent of the tumor and flexibly adopt surgical methods to ensure it is the best for patients. “Rapid Formation, Acute Rupture” Course of Intracranial Aneurysm
Intracranial aneurysm (IA) is a devastating cerebrovascular disease characterizing with a potential rupturing risk. In previous studies, the formation of IA was considered to be in a chronic manner, and the ruptured aneurysms might merely derived from the already formed unruptured IA. A 61-year-old male presented to the hospital complaining of a headache. The patient received neuroimage tests, including head computed tomography and digital substraction angiography, to examine the underlying cerebrovascular diseases. Interestingly, we found a newborn ruptured IA with 9-day intervals between 2 whole-cerebral digital subtract...

Double Primary Malignancies Involving Cutaneous Carcinoma
Abstract: Multiple primary malignancies (MPMs) refer to the presence of 2 or more histologically distinct malignant tumors in the same individual. The prevalence of MPMs has increased owing to earlier detection of tumors by screening tests and improved treatment modalities for primary tumors. Although any combination of malignant tumors is possible, reports of MPMs involving cutaneous carcinoma are uncommon in the literature. Herein, we present 2 uncommon cases of synchronous double primary malignancies involving basal cell carcinoma and primary cutaneous mucinous carcinoma as the index tumors, accompanied by a thyroid...
