Bioinformatics Analysis of Hub Genes Involved in Alcohol-Related Hemifacial Microsomia Pathogenesis
Conclusions: This study identified some significant hub genes, pathways, and modules of HFM related to alcohol by bioinformatics analyses. Our results suggest that the CTNNB1, TP53, MYC, HDAC1, and SOX B1 gene subfamilies may have played a major role in alcohol-induced HFM. (Source: Journal of Craniofacial Surgery)

Analysis of Factors Affecting Postoperative Drainage After Comprehensive Rhinoplasty
This study aimed to explore and analyze the factors influencing the drainage volume after comprehensive rhinoplasty. The clinical data of 102 patients who underwent comprehensive rhinoplasty at Shanghai Ninth People’s Hospital affiliated to Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine from August 2019 to August 2021 were retrospectively analyzed. The effects of age, sex, body mass index, whether an osteotomy was performed, and whether a nasal septum flap was obtained on the indwelling time of the drainage tube after the operation were analyzed by single factor analysis and multiple logistic regression analysis. Age, ...

Two Pre-Expanded Free Flaps Used for Auricular Reconstruction and Ipsilateral Facial Scar Release
Conclusions: The pre-expanded free forearm flap is a feasible method for total ear reconstruction when local flap therapies could not be applied. Repair of ipsilateral facial scar is beneficial for auricular procedures. (Source: Journal of Craniofacial Surgery)

Efficacy and Safety of Cryotherapy for Residual Tarsus and Free Tarsal Graft Implantation After Excision of Malignant Eyelid Tumor
Conclusions: The use of a free tarsal graft in the reconstruction of eyelid malignancies is relatively effective and safe, and if vascular support of the anterior lamella is obtained, cryotherapy is less likely to affect the viability of the free tarsal graft and may contribute to a decrease in local recurrence. Modified McLaughlin’s Dynamic Muscle Support in the 21st Century? A Retrospective Study With a Prospective Follow-Up Analysis for Patients With Long Standing Facial Paralysis
Conclusions: Even in times of advanced microsurgical techniques, McLaughlin’s Dynamic Muscle Support appears to be a good alternative for the successful treatment of long-standing facial paralysis. (Source: Journal of Craniofacial Surgery)

Assessment of Skeletal Maturation in Male Children With Unilateral Cleft Lip and Palate
Conclusions: Males with UCLP aged 12- to 14-year-old have a statistically significant increased risk of delayed skeletal maturity in comparison with their noncleft peers. The chronological age is not an accurate indicator to assess the degree of skeletal maturation. (Source: Journal of Craniofacial Surgery)

Endoscopic Removal of a Nasopharyngeal Foreign Body Stuck Within the Sphenoid Bone Using the Endonasal Transseptal Approach
Abstract: Nasopharyngeal foreign bodies (FBs), which are generally caused by a strong, external force, are seldomly encountered. Removing these FBs is challenging for otorhinolaryngological surgeons because of the vital structures surrounding the nasopharynx, such as the skull base, cranial nerves, and internal carotid artery. Here, the authors report the case of a 69-year-old man referred to our hospital after accidentally cutting his face while using a grinder. Grinder fragments were deeply embedded in the face, thus becoming nasopharyngeal FBs. The authors evaluated three-dimensional volume rendering images and imme...

Successful Repair of a Forehead Depression Deformation due to En Coup de Sabre Using Costal Cartilage Transplantation
Abstract: The authors report a successful repair of a case of en coup de sabre using costal cartilage for depression deformation of the forehead. A 23-year-old woman was diagnosed with linear scleroderma at age 10 and underwent a dermal fat transplant at another hospital when she was 18. However, after surgery, the graft began to atrophy. In about 2 years, the deformation was almost the same as before surgery. Therefore, she visited our hospital for surgical intervention. The authors treated the deformity with costal cartilage transplantation. There were no postoperative complications, and the deformation did not recur...

Orbital Compartment Syndrome Following Incisional Biopsy of Orbital Natural Killer/T-Cell Lymphoma
Abstract: A 73-year-old man presented with a swelling in the left upper eyelid and decreased vision for 3 weeks before referral to us. On the first examination, his left best-corrected visual acuity was 0.4. Magnetic resonance imaging demonstrated an orbital lesion on the left side. He consulted with us on 6 days post-incisional biopsy after noticing left eye vision loss at the postoperative 4 days. His left eye visual acuity was no light perception. Funduscopic and optical coherence tomographic examinations indicated left central retinal artery occlusion. Imaging studies demonstrated a left globe tenting with a poster...

Synchronous Pseudomonas Infection in Nose and Maxillery Sinus After Septorhinoplasty
A 50-year-old patient who underwent secondary rhinoplasty 1 year after the operation presented with signs of localized infection on the postoperative twentieth day. An abscess due to Pseudomonas aeruginosa was detected in the nose and maxillary sinus. The infection regressed after surgical debridement combined with intravenous antibiotic therapy. Pseudomonas infection has been reported in only six patients after septorhinoplasty. Rhinoplasty was combined with other aesthetic procedures in three patients. The mean time of onset of complaints was 33.25 days. The most common complaint was pain. The mean time to complete re...

A Modified Technique for Treating Post-Traumatic Temporomandibular Joint Ankylosis in a Pediatric Patient
Abstract: Treatment of post-traumatic temporomandibular joint ankylosis is still a challenge. A modified technique that included surgery navigation technique, ultrasonic osteotome, bovine acellular dermal matrix, and abdominal dermis fat transplantation, was applied to treat a case of post-traumatic temporomandibular joint ankylosis. A 11-year-old girl with right temporomandibular joint bony ankylosis received surgical treatment in our department. Immediately restoration of functions and prevention of re-ankylosis have been achieved. Therefore, this case report demonstrated the safety and effectiveness of this modified...

Survival of a Blank Cartridge Gunshot Injury to the Soft Palate in a Soldier
Abstract: The authors report a case of a soldier who survived after shooting a blank round from a K2 rifle into the oral cavity. For committing suicide, a 22-year-old male soldier shot a K2 rifle into his oral cavity. Because the first shot was a blank fire, he received an injury to his oral cavity, especially to his palate. On arrival hospital via air evacuation, the patient's vital signs were relatively stable and Glasgow Coma Scale score was 15. Profound epistaxis was noted from both nostrils, and his mouth was filled with blood. Intubation was performed immediately, followed by tracheostomy. On computed tomograp...
