Preoperative Arterial Coil Embolization for Temporomandibular Joint (TMJ) Surgery in Children with TMJ Ankylosis
Abstract: Temporomandibular joint (TMJ) ankylosis in children can alter facial development and affect oral hygiene and function. Surgical release of the ankylosis is the mainstay of treatment. The authors hypothesize that preoperative arterial coil embolization is safe and effective in preventing major blood loss during TMJ surgery (loss prompting blood transfusion or hemodynamic instability requiring vasoactive medication administration) in children with TMJ ankylosis. Intraoral Open Reduction for Mandibular Angle Fracture Using an Angulated Screwdriver System
Objectives: The optimal surgical technique to treat a mandibular angle fracture remains a subject of debate. The authors introduce a new surgical technique, involving the use of an angulated screwdriver to treat mandibular angle fractures. This renders the intraoral approach both feasible and reliable, with fewer complications than with an external approach. Methods: Between January 2012 and March 2016, the authors used an angulated screwdriver to treat 24 patients with mandibular angle fractures via transoral open reduction and rigid fixation. Patients were divided into 2 groups, a favorable and an unfavorable ...

Application of Segmented Template in Three-Dimensionally Guided Mandibular Angle Osteotomy
Conclusions: The custom-made template can guide the osteotomy plane during the MAO procedure and achieve favorable accuracy and symmetry. Direct contact of the saw with the guidance template not only facilitates control of the osteotomy line but also the oblique angle of the osteotomy plane. This methodology may be a feasible and effective tool for mandibular contouring. (Source: Journal of Craniofacial Surgery)

A Useful Tool for Various Problems in Nasal Tip: The Cephalic Transdomal Suture
Abstract: Surgical manipulation of the nasal tip is a critical point in functional and aesthetic rhinoplasty procedure. Cephalic strip excision from the lower lateral cartilages, elongation or shortening the caudal septum, structural grafting for supporting the medial and lateral crura are major structural moves in building a durable cartilaginous framework. However, it is suture techniques that make up the final touch in fine tuning of the shape, projection, definition, and angulation (rotation) of the nasal tip over this framework. Problems with fine-tuning of the nasal tip include inadequate or excessive definiti...
