The Effectiveness of Metformin in Managing Second Generation Antipsychotic-Induced Weight Gain in Children and Adolescents
Conclusions: Adjuvant metformin helps manage AIWG in children and adolescents by flattening the upward AIWG trend rather than reversing it. The effect was more prominent before the development of obesity, suggesting that the early introduction of metformin for AIWG management may be warranted.PMID:38127310 | DOI:10.4088/JCP.23m14894 (Source: Journal of Clinical Psychiatry)

A Comparison of Depressive Symptom Self-Reported Measures in the Texas Youth Depression and Suicide Research Network (TX-YDSRN)
Conclusions: The PHQ-A, QIDS-SR16, and VQIDS-SR5 are unidimensional, psychometrically acceptable self-reports of depressive prevalence or severity in adolescents and young adults in this sample. Total scale scores on any measure can be converted reliably to those on any other.PMID:38127311 | DOI:10.4088/JCP.23m14861 (Source: Journal of Clinical Psychiatry)

"When Will All of This End?": A 65-Year-Old Man With Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis and Psychiatric Distress
J Clin Psychiatry. 2023 Dec 13;85(1):23ct15038. doi: 10.4088/JCP.23ct15038.ABSTRACTPatients with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) are impacted both physically and psychiatrically during their illness. Emotional distress (ie, anxiety, depression, stress) is common in patients diagnosed with ALS, as prognosis is poor and there are very few effective treatments. The progression of symptoms is unpredictable, and all cases are terminal. Neuropsychiatric symptoms are also increasingly recognized as part of ALS symptomatology. There are currently no empirically supported interventions or best practices for adjustment to ALS. T...
