Association between periodontal diseases and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease: Evidence from sequential cross-sectional and prospective cohort studies based on UK Biobank
CONCLUSIONS: Periodontal diseases are associated with airflow limitation and elevated COPD incidence. Maintaining good periodontal health in patients with chronic bronchitis and emphysema may help prevent the onset of COPD.PMID:37850252 | DOI:10.1111/jcpe.13890 (Source: Journal of Clinical Periodontology)

A distinctive subgingival microbiome in patients with periodontitis and Alzheimer's disease compared with cognitively unimpaired periodontitis patients
CONCLUSIONS: A unique microbial composition was discovered in the subgingival region in the AD group. Specifically, potential periodontal pathogens were found to be more prevalent in the subgingival plaque samples of the AD group. These bacteria may possess a potential to worsen periodontitis and other systemic diseases. We recommend that AD patients receive regular, careful dental check-ups to ensure proper oral hygiene management.PMID:37853506 | DOI:10.1111/jcpe.13880 (Source: Journal of Clinical Periodontology)

Modelling time-varying risk factors of tooth loss: Results from joint model compared with extended Cox regression model
CONCLUSIONS: JMs can incorporate time-varying periodontal biomarkers to estimate the hazard of tooth loss. As JMs are not commonly used in oral health research, we provide a comprehensive set of R codes and an example dataset to implement the method.PMID:37846605 | DOI:10.1111/jcpe.13888 (Source: Journal of Clinical Periodontology)

Clinical outcomes following atrophic alveolar ridge reconstruction using collagenated xenogeneic bone block or autogenous bone block: One-year follow-up of a randomized controlled clinical
CONCLUSIONS: Dental implants placed in both CXBB- and ABB-augmented ridges demonstrated no statistically significant differences in clinical, volumetric and aesthetic outcomes, along with high patient satisfaction rates.PMID:37846853 | DOI:10.1111/jcpe.13891 (Source: Journal of Clinical Periodontology)

Periodontitis is associated with airflow obstruction in the Malm ö Offspring Dental Study
CONCLUSIONS: Severe periodontitis was associated with lower FEV1 /FVC ratio and airflow obstruction in the present cohort. More large-scale prospective studies and intervention studies are required for a comprehensive evaluation.PMID:37837290 | DOI:10.1111/jcpe.13886 (Source: Journal of Clinical Periodontology)

Adolescents' self-reported experiences following a person-centred, theory-based educational intervention versus conventional education for improved oral hygiene: Analysis of secondary outcomes of a randomized field study
CONCLUSIONS: The person-centred, theory-based intervention was superior in terms of adolescents' experiences of education and communication during therapy and self-reported oral hygiene behavioural outcomes at 6 months, in comparison with conventional information/instruction.PMID:37822115 | DOI:10.1111/jcpe.13883 (Source: Journal of Clinical Periodontology)

Why don't dental teams routinely discuss dentine hypersensitivity during consultations? A qualitative study informed by the Theoretical Domains Framework
CONCLUSIONS: Systemic (e.g., lack of time and training, professional culture) and behavioural (e.g., dental teams' belief that conversations should take place only with patients likely to be adherent) barriers to dentine hypersensitivity conversations explain why these conversations do not routinely take place.PMID:37817400 | DOI:10.1111/jcpe.13885 (Source: Journal of Clinical Periodontology)

Periodontitis in young individuals: Important factors for disease progression
CONCLUSIONS: High levels of BOP at baseline, smoking and interruption of periodontal treatment increased the risk of marginal bone loss. The stage and grade at baseline had no significant impact on disease progression.PMID:37803906 | DOI:10.1111/jcpe.13884 (Source: Journal of Clinical Periodontology)
