A multi-centre randomized controlled trial on alveolar ridge preservation with immediate or delayed implant placement: Need for soft-tissue augmentation
CONCLUSIONS: This multi-centre randomized controlled trial failed to demonstrate a significant difference in the need for STA between IIP and DIP when judged by a panel of blinded clinicians. Based on objective soft-tissue changes, patients with thin buccal soft tissues, with a buccal bone dehiscence and treated with a delayed approach appeared particularly prone to soft-tissue loss.PMID:38084405 | DOI:10.1111/jcpe.13911 (Source: Journal of Clinical Periodontology)

Periodontitis stage and grade modifies the benefit of regular supportive periodontal care in terms of need for retreatment and mean cumulative cost
CONCLUSIONS: The risk of relapse in the maintenance population may be correlated with higher stage and grade, patient compliance, modifiable risk factors and the nature of the treatment provided during APT. The total cost of treatment of recurrences was lower for compliers in Stage III/IV and Grade B/C compared with erratic compliers with the same severity and risk.PMID:38084661 | DOI:10.1111/jcpe.13909 (Source: Journal of Clinical Periodontology)

Are periodontitis and dental caries associated? A systematic review with meta-analyses
CONCLUSIONS: Periodontitis was found to be associated with the presence and number of treated/untreated root carious lesions. Therefore, caries-specific preventive measures (e.g., fluorides) should be considered for individuals with periodontitis.PMID:38084804 | DOI:10.1111/jcpe.13910 (Source: Journal of Clinical Periodontology)

Eligibility and efficacy of a CPC- and CHX-based antiviral mouthwash for the elimination of SARS-CoV-2 from the saliva: A randomized, double-blind, controlled clinical trial
CONCLUSIONS: Within the limitation of this study, there was no evidence that the intervention reduced salivary SARS-CoV-2 viral load during the course of 60 min. Therefore, commonly used pre-procedural rinsing might not be clinically relevant.PMID:38058254 | DOI:10.1111/jcpe.13905 (Source: Journal of Clinical Periodontology)

Epidemiology of plaque-induced gingivitis among 12-15-year-old Chinese schoolchildren: A study based on the 2018 case definition
CONCLUSIONS: The study population had high plaque-induced gingivitis prevalence. The extent of gingivitis appeared to have a dose-response relationship with the frequency of toothbrushing with a fluoride dentifrice.PMID:38037239 | DOI:10.1111/jcpe.13904 (Source: Journal of Clinical Periodontology)

Clinical and histological wound healing patterns of collagen-based substitutes: An experimental randomized controlled trial in standardized palatal defects in humans
CONCLUSIONS: Collagen-based wound dressings provide coverage of open defects, albeit without acceleration of wound closure or reduction of pain. FG (which is not intended for open oral wounds) showed slower wound closure compared to C and MD.PMID:38017650 | DOI:10.1111/jcpe.13903 (Source: Journal of Clinical Periodontology)
