Let's talk about sex: A feminist poststructural approach to addressing sexual health in the healthcare setting
AbstractAims and objectivesTo explore the use of feminist poststructuralism (FPS) as a way to critique, understand and improve sexual health care and policy in healthcare settings.BackgroundSexual health is an important aspect of health; however, in healthcare settings, it often goes unaddressed by both healthcare providers and patients due to stigma, taboo, fear of embarrassment or uncertainty. Lack of attention to sexual health has been stated as a legitimate concern for patients across the lifespan; there remain gaps in implementing sexual health care discussions into practice in healthcare settings.DesignA critical ana...

Breastfeeding woman or lactating object? A critical philosophical discussion on the influence of Cartesian dualism on breastfeeding in the neonatal intensive care unit
ConclusionFuture research from a more critical lens is needed to examine the complex dynamics involved when nurses and mothers are negotiating decisions and processes related to infant feeding. In focusing on the relational dimensions of the breastfeeding experience, nurses can resist the dualistic influence and dominant discourses impacting infant feeding and motherhood in the 21st century. The associations of workload, individual and organisational factors on nurses ’ occupational injuries

Decreasing nurses ’ mental workload, introducing guidelines and efficient training in shift work schedules can help decrease occupational injuries among nurses.Relevance to clinical practiceIn order to reduce occupational injuries among nurses, in addition to incorporating advanced management and technology, it is necessary to pay attention to psychosocial, individual and organisational risk factors related to occupational injuries and their frequency in nurses. Also, reducing personnel's mental and occupational pressure sho...

Patients ’ self‐reported nausea: Validation of the Numerical Rating Scale and of a daily summary of repeated Numerical Rating Scale scores
ConclusionsNumeric Rating Scale scores showed strong associations with a verbal scale; therefore, the NRS seems to be a valid tool to measure nausea intensity. The quality of daily summarised median nausea scores needs to be further explored before clinical use.Relevance to clinical practiceThe use of the NRS in assessments of nausea in postoperative care will facilitate communication between patients and health care professionals regarding nausea intensity. When documenting nausea, it seems unnecessary to distinguish nausea at rest from nausea during activity. (Source: Journal of Clinical Nursing)

Exploring the early ‐stage implementation of a patient engagement support intervention in an integrated‐care context—A qualitative study of a participatory process
ConclusionThe implementation of a brief intervention for patient engagement support required a process of adjustment to the single settings and a continuous support to healthcare professionals. It also required performing complementary activities to assist the implementation and its adoption in new care services.Relevance to clinical practiceThis qualitative study contributes to the understanding of the pitfalls and strategies that may surround embedding patient engagement support in the educational practice of complex organisations, potentially facilitating the deployment to other care settings. Transformative agency and tensions in knowledge management —A qualitative interview study for nurse leaders
