Antibiotic adjuvant activities of quorum sensing signal molecules DSF and BDSF against mature biofilms of Staphylococci
J Chemother. 2023 Oct 24:1-13. doi: 10.1080/1120009X.2023.2270743. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTAmong promising antibiofilm compounds, quorum-sensing (QS) molecules that regulate biological processes such as biofilm formation and intra- or interspecies communication appear to be good candidates. The invitro antibiotic-adjuvant effects of QS molecules diffusible signal factor (DSF) and B. cenocepacia producing-DSF (BDSF) were investigated against mature Staphylococcal biofilms. Broth microdilution methods were used for the determinations of MIC, MBC, MBIC, and MBEC, and bactericidal activities were determined by TKC method...

Characteristics and predictors of infusion-related reactions to rituximab in patients with B-cell non-Hodgkin lymphoma
J Chemother. 2023 Oct 20:1-8. doi: 10.1080/1120009X.2023.2270833. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThis retrospective study aimed to assess the characteristics and predictors of infusion-related reactions (IRRs) to rituximab in patients with B-cell non-Hodgkin lymphoma (B-NHL). The medical records of adult patients with B-NHL who received their first cycle of rituximab from August 2020 to August 2022 were reviewed. IRRs were defined as any signs experienced by patients during rituximab infusion and graded according to the Common Terminology Criteria for Adverse Events. During the study period, 334 patients were included; amon...

Nivolumab-induced Lambert-Eaton myasthenic syndrome: an immune-related adverse event in nonsmall cell lung cancer
In this report, we describe a rare case of Lambert-Eaton myasthenic syndrome (LEMS), which developed as a side effect of nivolumab in a patient with metastatic lung squamous cell carcinoma. Our patient, who was previously treated with nivolumab for metastatic squamous cell carcinoma of the lung, appeared with a headache, swollen face, dysarthria, asthenia, xerostomia, and drooping eyelid. Early testing indicated no thymomas or newly developing tumors in whole-body scans, and the blood workup was normal. We came to the conclusion that nivolumab-induced LEMS was the cause of the symptoms after performing nerve conduction inv...

Antibiotic resistance in < em > Campylobacter jejuni < /em > and < em > Campylobacter coli: < /em > significant contribution of an RND type efflux pump in erythromycin resistance
In this study, we aimed to determine the antibiotic resistance status of Campylobacter spp. isolated from human infections in our region, including the role of mechanisms involved in erythromycin resistance. Standard methods were used for the isolation, identification and antibiotic susceptibility testing of Campylobacter spp. isolates. Erythromycin-resistant mutants were selected from erythromycin-susceptible clinical isolates, and the erythromycin resistance mechanisms were investigated phenotypically by determining the erythromycin MICs of isolates in the presence and absence of the resistance nodulation cell division (...

Varicella zoster virus reactivation reported with isatuximab use
J Chemother. 2023 Oct 6:1-4. doi: 10.1080/1120009X.2023.2266201. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTIsatuximab is a CD38-directed antibody indicated for the treatment of relapsed or refractory multiple myeloma. The Division of Pharmacovigilance at the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) reviewed case reports from postmarketing sources, including the FDA Adverse Event Reporting System (FAERS), PubMed, and Embase, to investigate a potential association between isatuximab and the risk of varicella zoster virus (VZV) reactivation. We identified 20 reports of which 15 met our case definition and causality criteria. All 15 patien...
