Metabolomics Profiling Predicts Ventricular Arrhythmia in Patients with an Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator
AbstractImplantable cardioverter defibrillators (ICDs) reduce sudden cardiac death (SCD) when patients experience life-threatening ventricular arrhythmias (LTVA). However, current strategies determining ICD patient selection and risk stratification are inefficient. We used metabolomics to assess whether dysregulated metabolites are associated with LTVA and identify potential biomarkers. Baseline plasma samples were collected from 72 patients receiving ICDs. Over a median follow-up of 524.0 days (range 239.0 –705.5), LTVA occurred in 23 (31.9%) patients (22 effective ICD treatments and 1 SCD). After confounding risk facto...

Ascending Aorta 4D Time to Peak Distention Sexual Dimorphism and Association with Coronary Plaque Burden Severity in Women
In this study, a new automatic ascending aorta time-to-peak-distention (TPD) analysis was developed for fast screening and as an independent surrogate for subclinical atherosclerosis in asymptomatic women. CCTA was obtained in 50 asymptomatic adults. Plaque burden segment involvement score (SIS) and automatic TPD were obtained from all subjects. Logistic regression analyses were performed to investigate the association between CAD risk scores and TPD with severe coronary plaque burden (SIS>5). TPD, individually, was found to be a significant predictor of SIS>5. Additionally, sex was a significant effect modifier of T...

Heart Failure with Recovered Ejection Fraction in Patients with Vinculin Loss-of-function Variants
AbstractPredictors of myocardial recovery in heart failure (HF) are poorly understood. We explored if vinculin (VCL) variants are associated with myocardial recovery in dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM). Six infants with DCM with aVCL loss-of-function (LOF) variant were identified. Median age at diagnosis was 2 months, median LV ejection fraction was 24%, and median LV end-diastolic diameterz-score was 10.8. All patients received HF medications. Five patients (83%) showed normalization of LV function at a median age of 2.7 years. One patient progressed to end-stage HF requiring heart transplant. This case series identified a un...

Early and Accurate Detection of Radiation-induced Heart Damage by Cardiodynamicsgram
This study explored the feasibility of CDG for detecting radiation-induced heart damage (RIHD) in a rat model. A single radiation dose of 40  Gy was delivered to the cardiac apex of female Wistar rats. First, CDG was generated through dynamic modeling of ECG signals using the deterministic learning algorithm. Furthermore, CDG indexes were calculated using the wavelet transform and entropy. In this model, CDG entropy indexes decreased si gnificantly after radiotherapy. The shape of CDG changed significantly after radiotherapy (irregular shape) compared with controls (regular shape). Macrophage and fibrosis in myocardium of...

A Novel Hemostatic Belt Allowing Ambulation Soon After Atrial Fibrillation Ablation
AbstractWe aimed to develop a hemostatic device with physiological evidence that allows ambulation soon after atrial fibrillation (AF) ablation. We measured right femoral vein pressure in 57 participants to clarify why groin post-venipuncture rebleeding often occurs during the transition from supine to sitting under compression bandage application and found that it increased more than threefold when raising the upper body (8.6 ± 4.1 to 27.6 ± 6.9 mmHg;P< 0.001). Based on that data, we created a novel hemostatic belt. Its capability test including 25 participants demonstrated that the belt gave much higher compression ...

Age and Sex Differences in the Genetics of Cardiomyopathy
AbstractCardiomyopathy has variable penetrance. We analyzed age and sex-related genetic differences in 1,397 cardiomyopathy patients (Ontario, UK) with whole genome sequencing. Pediatric cases (n  = 471) harbored more deleterious protein-coding variants in Tier 1 cardiomyopathy genes compared to adults (n = 926) (34.6% vs 25.9% respectively, p = 0.0015), with variant enrichment in constrained coding regions. Pediatric patients had a higher burden of sarcomere and lower burden of channelopathy gene variants compared to adults. Specifically, pediatric patients had moreMYH7 andMYL3 variants in hypertrophic cardiom...

Knockdown of Mmu-circ-0001380 Attenuates Myocardial Ischemia/Reperfusion Injury via Modulating miR-106b-5p/Phlpp2 Axis
In conclusion, circ-0001380 downregulation relieves MI/R injury via regulating the miR-106b-5p/Phlpp2 axis.Graphical AbstractThe present study indicates that mmu-circ-0001380 exacerbates the myocardial ischemia/reperfusion injury through modulating the miR-106b-5p/Phlpp2 axisin vitro andin vivo. Blood Cadmium and Abdominal Aortic Calcification in Population with Different Weight Statuses: a Population-Based Study
AbstractThe aim of our study was to assess the effect of blood cadmium levels (B-Cd) on abdominal aortic calcification (AAC). We used the data from the 2013 –2014 NHANES database. A total of 1530 participants were included in our study, with a mean AAC score of 1.40 ± 0.10, and a prevalence of severe AAC of 7.98%. Participants with higher B-Cd quartiles showed a higher prevalence of severe AAC. B-Cd was positively associated with higher AAC score s and increased risk of severe AAC. In the obese population, blood cadmium levels showed a positive association with the risk of severe AAC. There may be a positive correla...
