Cardiac Rehabilitation in Atrial Fibrillation Patients With Left Atrial Appendage Occlusion: A RANDOMIZED TRIAL
Conclusions: Cardiac rehabilitation was shown to accelerate device endothelialization in patients with AF with LAA occlusion, while also improving the quality of life, exercise capacity, and physical function. (Source: Journal of Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation)

Effects of Supervised Exercise Training on Atrial Fibrillation: A META-ANALYSIS OF RANDOMIZED CONTROLLED TRIALS
Conclusions: Supervised exercise training is safe, reduces AF recurrence, and improves quality of life and CRF in participants with AF. Further large RCTs with ambulatory monitoring and robust exercise regimens are needed to assess the effects of exercise training on AF burden and AF symptoms. Exercise and Quality-of-Life Outcomes of Two Versus Three Weekly Sessions of Pulmonary Rehabilitation
Conclusions: Our findings support current international guidelines for twice-weekly supervised PR sessions combined with unsupervised home exercise sessions. We conclude there is no disadvantage in running a PR program for patients with COPD using twice-weekly supervised sessions compared with three times weekly supervised sessions. Validation of the PROMIS-29v2 Health-Related Quality-of-Life Questionnaire in Patients With Coronary Heart Disease Participating in Remote Cardiac Rehabilitation
Conclusion: The PROMIS-29v2 is reliable, valid, and responsive to changes in patients with CHD attending remotely delivered CR and allows for baseline HRQL assessment, between-diagnosis comparisons, and evaluation of changes over time. (Source: Journal of Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation)

Tracking Cardiac Rehabilitation Utilization in Medicare Beneficiaries: 2017 UPDATE
Conclusions: The absolute enrollment, engagement, and program completion rates remain low among Medicare beneficiaries, indicating that many patients did not benefit or fully benefit from a class I guideline-recommended therapy. Additional research and continued widespread adoption of successful enrollment and engagement initiatives are needed, especially among identified populations. The Association of Patient Educational Attainment With Cardiac Rehabilitation Adherence and Health Outcomes
Conclusions: Patients with lower SES attend fewer sessions of CR than their higher SES counterparts and may not attain the same level of benefit from attending. Programs need to increase attendance within this population and consider program modifications that further support behavioral changes during CR. (Source: Journal of Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation)

Women's Health-Related Quality of Life Substantially Improves With Tailored Cardiac Rehabilitation: A SYSTEMATIC REVIEW AND META-ANALYSIS
Conclusions: Women attending EBCR achieve clinically meaningful improvements in multiple areas of HRQL, with added benefits when strategies were tailored to their needs. These benefits should be highlighted to promote EBCR uptake in women. (Source: Journal of Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation)

Heart Rate Response to Exercise and Recovery: INDEPENDENT PROGNOSTIC MEASURES IN PATIENTS WITHOUT KNOWN MAJOR CARDIOVASCULAR DISEASE
Purpose: Heart rate response during exercise testing (ET) provides valuable prognostic information. Limited data are available regarding the prognostic interplay of heart rate (HR) measured at rest, exercise and recovery phases of ET, and its ability to predict risk beyond exercise capacity. Methods: Retrospective analysis of treadmill ETs was performed by the Bruce protocol in patients aged 35-75 yr without known cardiovascular disease (CVD; n = 13 887; 47% women). Heart rate recovery at 2 min (HRR2; defined abnormal (Source: Journal of Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation)

Joint Associations of Obesity and Cardiorespiratory Fitness With Coronary Artery Calcium Composition: IS THERE EVIDENCE FOR FAT-BUT-FIT?
Conclusions: These findings demonstrate that while obesity is positively associated with the prevalence of moderate to severe CAC scores, CRF is inversely associated with the prevalence of moderate to severe CAC scores. Additionally, the combination of being fit and obese was not associated with CAC scores, which could potentially reinforce the fat-but-fit paradigm. Implementation and Effectiveness of a Veterans Affairs–Based Comprehensive Lung Cancer Survivorship Program
Purpose: Few programs exist to address persistent impairment in functional status, quality of life, and mental health in lung cancer survivors. We aimed to determine whether a 12-wk multimodal survivorship program imparts clinical benefit. Methods: Any patient at the Durham Veterans Affairs Medical Center with lung cancer and a Karnofsky score of ≥60 could participate. Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease medications were optimized at the enrollment visit. Participants with a Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS) score of>8 were offered pharmacotherapy and mental health referral. Participants did home-...

Building Capacity Through ICCPR Cardiovascular Rehabilitation Foundations Certification (CRFC): EVALUATION OF REACH, BARRIERS, AND IMPACT
Conclusions: The reach of the CRFC still needs to be broadened, in particular in low-resource settings.
