Impact of controlled blood pressure and pulse rate at discharge on clinical outcomes in patients with ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction
CONCLUSIONS: The good control of systolic BP and PR at discharge was inversely associated with long-term adverse events in STEMI patients treated with both ACE inhibitors/ARBs and beta blockers. This study suggests the importance of titration of ACE inhibitors/ARBs and beta-blockers for better clinical outcomes in patients with STEMI.PMID:37802203 | DOI:10.1016/j.jjcc.2023.09.013 (Source: Journal of Cardiology)

Validation study of EuroSCORE II for dialysis patients: A single-center study in Japan
CONCLUSIONS: Although EuroSCORE II model adequately estimated in-hospital mortality in the low-and intermediate-risk groups (EuroSCORE II <8 %), it underestimated in-hospital mortality in the high-risk group (EuroSCORE II >8 %) among maintenance dialysis patients. The discrimination performance of the model for in-hospital death was good among maintenance dialysis patients.PMID:37802204 | DOI:10.1016/j.jjcc.2023.09.011 (Source: Journal of Cardiology)

Predictors and prognostic implications of left ventricular ejection fraction trajectory improvement in the Spectrum of heart failure with reduced and mildly reduced ejection fraction
CONCLUSIONS: LVEF trajectory improvement patients had improved clinical outcomes and it was associated with important clinical, baseline cardiac structure and function, and treatment factors. Outcomes were similar in both HFrEF-to-HFimpEF and HFmrEF-to-HFpEF subgroups. These results suggest that emphasis should be placed on LVEF trajectory improvement to improve the outcomes of this population.PMID:37802201 | DOI:10.1016/j.jjcc.2023.09.012 (Source: Journal of Cardiology)

Initial results of Transcatheter modification of left atrial appendage by obliteration with device in patients with Nonvalvular atrial fibrillation: Real-world data from the TERMINATOR registry
CONCLUSIONS: These preliminary data demonstrated percutaneous LAAC with WATCHMAN device might have a potential to reduce stroke and bleeding events for patients with NVAF. Further investigation is mandatory to confirm the long-term results of this strategy using this transcatheter local therapy instead of life-long systemic anticoagulation.PMID:37802202 | DOI:10.1016/j.jjcc.2023.09.010 (Source: Journal of Cardiology)

Early mobilization for acute heart failure: A scoping and a systematic review
In conclusions, our review suggests that early mobilization, defined as protocol-based interventions or walking within 3 days of admission, may be associated with a low readmission rate in patients with acute HF. Future studies are essential, to investigate the causal relationship between early mobilization and possible outcomes.PMID:37797714 | DOI:10.1016/j.jjcc.2023.09.009 (Source: Journal of Cardiology)

Prevalence of atrial septal defects and patent foramen ovale in a cohort of sudden cardiac death patients undergoing autopsy
CONCLUSIONS: The combined rate of PFO and ASD in a cohort of 517 patients undergoing autopsy was 7.9 %. None of these patients had experienced a cerebrovascular accident. This rate of PFOs appears lower than earlier reports and raises the possibility that the relative risk of an associated stroke could be higher than previously estimated.PMID:37734655 | DOI:10.1016/j.jjcc.2023.09.006 (Source: Journal of Cardiology)

Although the number of effective treatment options has increased in recent years, the lack of effective screening methods is provoking continued high mortality and rehospitalization rates. Appropriately, auscultation has been the primary option for screening such patients, however, challenges arise due to the variability in auscultation skills, the obje...
