The real-world data of lipid-lowering treatment in patients with peripheral artery disease and its association with severity of disease
CONCLUSIONS: Statin prescription rates for PAD patients were low in real-world practice settings in the field of vascular surgery. Since statin non-use is a determinant of CLI, there is a need to educate physicians engaged in treatment regarding lipid-lowering treatment with statins.PMID:37816481 | DOI:10.1016/j.jjcc.2023.10.002 (Source: Journal of Cardiology)

Predictors and prognostic implications of left ventricular ejection fraction trajectory improvement in the Spectrum of heart failure with reduced and mildly reduced ejection fraction
CONCLUSIONS: LVEF trajectory improvement patients had improved clinical outcomes and it was associated with important clinical, baseline cardiac structure and function, and treatment factors. Outcomes were similar in both HFrEF-to-HFimpEF and HFmrEF-to-HFpEF subgroups. These results suggest that emphasis should be placed on LVEF trajectory improvement to improve the outcomes of this population.PMID:37802201 | DOI:10.1016/j.jjcc.2023.09.012 (Source: Journal of Cardiology)

Initial results of Transcatheter modification of left atrial appendage by obliteration with device in patients with Nonvalvular atrial fibrillation: Real-world data from the TERMINATOR registry
CONCLUSIONS: These preliminary data demonstrated percutaneous LAAC with WATCHMAN device might have a potential to reduce stroke and bleeding events for patients with NVAF. Further investigation is mandatory to confirm the long-term results of this strategy using this transcatheter local therapy instead of life-long systemic anticoagulation.PMID:37802202 | DOI:10.1016/j.jjcc.2023.09.010 (Source: Journal of Cardiology)

Impact of controlled blood pressure and pulse rate at discharge on clinical outcomes in patients with ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction
CONCLUSIONS: The good control of systolic BP and PR at discharge was inversely associated with long-term adverse events in STEMI patients treated with both ACE inhibitors/ARBs and beta blockers. This study suggests the importance of titration of ACE inhibitors/ARBs and beta-blockers for better clinical outcomes in patients with STEMI.PMID:37802203 | DOI:10.1016/j.jjcc.2023.09.013 (Source: Journal of Cardiology)

Validation study of EuroSCORE II for dialysis patients: A single-center study in Japan
CONCLUSIONS: Although EuroSCORE II model adequately estimated in-hospital mortality in the low-and intermediate-risk groups (EuroSCORE II <8 %), it underestimated in-hospital mortality in the high-risk group (EuroSCORE II >8 %) among maintenance dialysis patients. The discrimination performance of the model for in-hospital death was good among maintenance dialysis patients.PMID:37802204 | DOI:10.1016/j.jjcc.2023.09.011 (Source: Journal of Cardiology)
