Increased Bone Material Strength Index Is Positively Associated With the Risk of Incident Osteoporotic Fractures in Older Swedish Women
In conclusion, unexpectedly increasing BMSi was associated wit h greater fracture risk. The clinical relevance and potential mechanisms of this finding require further study. © 2023 The Authors.Journal of Bone and Mineral Research published by Wiley Periodicals LLC on behalf of American Society for Bone and Mineral Research (ASBMR). Comparability of Osteoporosis Treatment Groups Among Female Medicare Beneficiaries in the United States
ABSTRACTIt is often difficult to obtain valid estimates of comparative treatment effectiveness and safety owing to differences across patient populations taking different medications in the real world. One approach for assessing comparability between treatment groups in effectiveness studies is to use negative control outcomes (NCOs). NCOs share similar sources of bias with the primary outcomes but have no plausible causal relationship to the treatment of interest. Observing differences in the risk of NCOs thus provides evidence for residual confounding between groups. This retrospective study assessed the comparability of...

A Fracture Risk Assessment Tool for High Resolution Peripheral Quantitative Computed Tomography
This study developed a fracture risk assessment tool that uses information about volumetric bone density and three-dimensional structure, obtained using high-resolution peripheral quantitative compute tomography (HR-pQCT), to provide an alternative approach for patient-specific assessment of fracture risk. Using an international prospective cohort of older adults (n = 6802) we developed a tool to predict osteoporotic fracture risk, called μFRAC. The model was constructed using random survival forests, and input predictors included HR-pQCT parameters summarizing BMD and microarchitecture alongside clinical risk factors...

Magnesium ascorbyl phosphate promotes bone formation via CaMKII signaling
A Schematic of the signaling pathway by which MAP binds to CaMKII α, leading to the upregulation of CaMKII/ERK1/2/CREB/C-FOS signaling, promoting osteogenic differentiation and proliferation of SSPCs and protection against osteoporosis. AbstractDysregulation of bone homeostasis is closely related to the pathogenesis of osteoporosis. Suppressing bone resorption by osteoclasts to attenuate bone loss has been widely investigated, but far less effort has been poured toward promoting bone formation by osteoblasts. Here, we aimed to explore magnesium ascorbyl phosphate (MAP), a hydrophilic and stable ascorbic acid derivative, a...
