Prevention of pain on injection of propofol using ice gel pack versus pre-treatment with lignocaine: a randomized controlled trial
ConclusionTopical thermotherapy using an ice gel pack was not found superior to lignocaine pre-treatment in alleviating pain on injection of propofol injection. However, topical cold therapy using an ice pack remains a non-pharmacological technique that is easily available, reproducible, and cost-effective. Further studies are required to prove its equivalence to lignocaine pre-treatment.Trial registrationCTRI (CTRI/2021/04/032950). (Source: Journal of Anesthesia)

Efficacy of McGRATH ®MAC videolaryngoscope blade 1 for tracheal intubation in small children: a randomized controlled clinical study
ConclusionsIn small children without predicted difficult airways, time to intubate the trachea was significantly longer for a McGRATH ®MAC blade 1 than a Macintosh blade 1.Clinical trial registrationjRCT1032220366. (Source: Journal of Anesthesia)

Frailty: the perioperative and anesthesia challenges of an emerging pandemic
AbstractFrailty is a complex and multisystem biological process characterized by reductions in physiological reserve. It is an increasingly common phenomena in the surgical population, and significantly impacts postoperative recovery. In this review, we will discuss the pathophysiology of frailty, as well as preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative considerations for frailty care. We will also discuss the different models of postoperative care, including enhanced recovery pathways, as well as elective critical care admission. With discoveries of new effective interventions, and advances in healthcare information tec...

Effect of active warming on perioperative cardiovascular outcomes: a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials
ConclusionsCompared to routine perioperative care, we found that active warming methods are not necessary for cardiovascular prevention in patients undergoing noncardiac surgery. (Source: Journal of Anesthesia)
